My Puppy package repo(s)

#1 Post by sc0ttman »

For puppy4: http://ppm.scottjarvis.com

I've put together a collection of (mostly) small, useful PETs that cannot be found in the official Puppy repo..

The packages do not contain descriptions so they have been categorised to give users an idea of what each app is for.

That is nice, except I find light characters on a dark background hard to read. :(

It would be even better if you included a short description, or at least a link to one, for each program. :)

I'll think about that, but I'm not exactly an expert on most of the apps!

Also, you can change the theme if you click on the "(?)", I may change the default, so its more readable..

I'd also consider writing an upload script, so users can add their own PETs, with descriptions... If anyone is interested..

This is promising...

Yes please :D.

Ideas:
  • Would it be better if categories are done using tags?
  • What about the upload script getting info from the pet.specs text file from the pets?
  • Category icons?
  • ScreenShots of apps.
  • Pages with detailed info on package.
  • HTML and CSS to be aloud in info (title, description, ect).
  • Other themes for the user to choose from (icons, colours, fonts, ect).

That's a big list, and I'd have to write a whole new file explorer PHP script.. The one I'm using is based on FileNice, and would not work with tags for categories, or HTML in the title..

What I will do (I think..):

Clicking on any pet files "+" button currently shows a panel with filesize, date, etc.. I will add more info to these panels..

1. click on a pet, and the info panel will show a readme file and a screenshot link above the HTML and UBB textareas (but only if "[petname].txt" and "[petname].jpg" are found)

2. upload script that allows users to add an image and description, which will be added, as described above.

3. A link to the upload script at the top of the page, which automatically passes the directory currently being viewed to the upload script, so it's easy to add PETs where you want them..

This should be enough for a helpful collection of PETs..

games

#9 Post by raffy »

Is the collection more of games? Then it can be known as such.

To save you effort, you can also use .htaccess in your main folder and put in there

Options +Indexes

and then use descriptive names for files and folders (about 20 characters).

You can also add a 1-Readme.htm in every folder if you have to explain anything to the reader.

No, it's not mostly games.. It's a full collection of all the PETs I like and use..

I'm reasonably familiar with .htaccess and modifying the appearance of the Apache directory indexes..

But I have no idea how these ideas would integrate with a PHP file explorer script, which replaces the normal directory listings of Apache...

Wanna post an example of what you're talking about?

Keep up the great work you've done here scottman, please! You've got a very admirable list of programmes here! 8) And all this time here I thought I had a lot backed up on my DVDs. Sheesh! I've got nothing compared to your fine list!

Thanks for having shared with us AND for helping our Community. Two thumbs up!

Hi...

I tried the LAMP solution...

The phpMyAdmin does not log in with root/woofwoof.

Am I wrong if I say that the A stands for Apache in LAMP and that this is actually LHMP?

Anyhow... I recommend you update that package to LHMP, that has a newer version of Hiawatha and probably also the database and PHP.

That LHMP package works very fine out of the box.

Its good to see that there is alternative collections of Pets.

Best
