I have always wondered where puppy come from..
is a slackware derivative, a vortex, a debian, a redhat..
or maybe nothing of those..
and among the major distribution, which one is more similar to puppy?
i am asking just because i've the need to run a program, that was compiled under redhat, and I HATE REDHAT and FEDORA..
is there a small chance it will run under puppy?
maybe if i bring all the libraries?
Thanks

The depths of Barry's mind. To my understanding, it was not based on anything, but built from scratch.I have always wondered where puppy come from..
As Nathan said, it was compiled on a range of distros. It has many programs taken directly from many of them. I'd start with Vector or Slackware packages if I were you, as they seem to be the most compatible. Vector was the most recent host for Puppy, and Slackware is sorta Vector's uncle, so its stuff tends to work in Vector, and as Vector stuff tends to work in Puppy, so does Slackware stuff.

package version parity with Slackware 10.1
http://www.pupweb.org/puppy/development ... cratch.htmNote that I am kind of trying to achieve package version parity with Slackware 10.1, and I have used many files taken directly from Vector Linux 5.0STD (which is based on Slackware 10.1) for the base packages in Unleashed and in usr_devx.sfs. Thus, these are not compiled (yet) in Sourcerer. The file usr_devx.sfs in particular is mostly just composed of files dragged across from Vector
