Hi

Could somebody make Calibre into a pet. Cool I have tried to get their linux version to function, but no luck. I need it to run my KOBO ereader in puppy. Adobe Digital Editions will work in wine but I would rather have straight linux programs.

Running Lucid 500, 4.3.2 and playing with kdpup.

Asus M4A78T-E, AMD Phenom II dual core, onboard graphics.

Hi,

You can use Calibre Portable through Wine, after installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2008, included in Calibre Portable.

Sub_title: Lucid Puppy should work fine, right?

While I have not yet done it, I thought you could install .deb files in Lupu. If I am correct in this assumption, then it should be just fine.

I run Calibre in Ubuntu to convert for Stanza, and it is flawless. More stable, and faster by a hair than in Windows 7.

The new version converts practically anything, even .lit files.

Which reminds me...I need to make a donation to Calibre... Smile Smile Smile

PostPosted: Tue 27 Jul 2010, 20:21    Post_subject: How I installed Calibre in Puppy 4.3.2

I got it going native in 4.3.2. (32 bit)

Method I used (may be redundant):

Install the devx sfs for your kernel and distro version
Install glibc-2.10.1.pet
Install gcc-4.2.2-1.pet
install python-2.6.4-i386.pet
rename /usr/bin/python to /usr/bin/python.old
make a new link called /usr/bin/python pointing to /usr/bin/python2.6
browse to the Calibre website download page.
select all and copy the binary download command to a terminal screen.
delete the word sudo inthe beginning of the command line, and run the command

Optional:

I installed it to /opt (the default) but had previously moved /opt to /mnt/home, and then linked it back to its original location (I have a frugal install). This reduces the impact of the size of this and a few other big programs like Open Office on the size of the pup save file.

Good luck!

for interest I've just installed Calibre in Lucid RC 518

First did a frugal install of Lucid RC 518 (and save file)
then installed the Gnu C Compiler lupu_devx_516.sfs from quick pet

then from the Calibre download page - the binary install instructions
in a command line window - (copy then paste with middle mouse button/wheel)
Code:
python -c "import urllib2; exec urllib2.urlopen('http://status.calibre-ebook.com/linux_installer').read(); main()"

which installs "calibre-0.7.35-i686.tar.bz2"

it only had one fail;
"Setting up desktop integration failed with error" due to
"xdg-icon-resource: command not found"

started from command line ok

then from /opt/calibre dragged the "calibre" file to the desktop
found a icon in /opt/calibre/resources/content_server

starts ok from the desk top Shocked Very Happy

Calibre says you need xdg-utils installed - how do I do that? Doesn't seem to be in the package manager.

@mulluysavage

Have you got lupu_devx_520.sfs installed?
(or the one to match your puppy version)

with python I think you need to try from the command line
Code:
python mobidedrm.py
