Lob, sorry didn't inform your earlier - thought I already said that in the beta3 thread ==> You need python in devx to make openshot works.
I didn't try it with any other python pet, and I don't think we have released any standalone python pet yet, so the pet you got must be for 32-bit python which *will not* work.
Regarding the influence of Jemimah . . .

Good idea, I like Jemimah's icons, but let's make the dog work first, then we'll talk about making it pretty :p

Anyone wanting to use openshot without having to use devx, I'm currently uploading python pet. It will be there shortly.

EDIT: I've also re-uploaded zarfy, fbreader, and evince which will show correct menu entries.

java working - thanks
Openshot working (I think - running) got rid of the 32 bit pet and installed 007's :P new 64bit python pet :)

Good news about the plans for pooch pampering Puppeee style
- We really should have this as the first official 64bit Puppy . . .

Time to shoot my first Faddog64 Puppy production
Hope it works . . .

Thanks guys - just to confirm

expected, kernel change in rc3 - old save files contains modules from previous kernel.

Please boot with pfix=ram, open terminal, and provide output from

Code: Select all

fdisk -lu
cfdisk -Pst
cat /proc/partitions

disktype /dev/sda
. I cannot reproduce your problem - universal installer can see my eleven partitions. It has other issues though ....

Glad to hear that, let me know whether it is actually working ! I spent about 5 mins in it, make sure all the menu is working etc ... but didn't actually carry out any video editing and exporting. So let me know.

64 bit Fatdog Puppy Linux
used with Openshot to create this:

Initially I had problems with the export
but once I chose the right one . . .
Youtube (Google)
took a while to process it
but Openshot works in Puppy . . .

I am happy :)

here are notes i took while trying things out.

i am not as sophisticated as you guys at this so if my stuff is too crude for you and no help at all, just let me know and i will not clutter up your space with my ramblings.

here are the notes i took while testing things out and my signature on the bottom should give you the hardware i am using for the test:

fatdog64-500 rc3.iso

burned to cd ok.
opened abiword ok, typing this in abiword.
save this to spot as fatdog_6410.abw ok

set mouse to left hand ok
set 4 virtual consoles ok
saved this by clicking floppy at top of abiword, ok
opened #2 vc. try to set up network.
found correct driver on boot. wl loaded as eth1.
there is no connect button on desktop of this version, so hunt for connection method.
start\pwireless network found and dhcp found network.
worked great !!!!
clicked icon on firefox. opened. clicked hone, went to fatdog.
open vc3, opened 2 instances of “files

Hi jamesbond,

results in attached file for:
fdisk -lu
cfdisk -Pst
cat /proc/partitions
probedisk2
disktype /dev/sda

tested Universal installer again
it highlights 3rd partition (sda6) but only reports sda1 and sda5

also tested with lucid 201 all partitions fine

Lobster, I saw your video. Great work ! :)

rover, I don't understand what you mean by:
set up xine
went to start\multimedia clicked on xine. opened ok
clicked on top box (browser opened) clicked on add, then clicked on flv file in spot. video started playing without sound.
also
start\multimedia\alsa mixer\ nothing happens. disappears .
Please boot pfix=ram and post content of /proc/asound/cards, /proc/asound/modules
open vc 4. opened terminal, ran alsaconf.
You don't need to do this. In fact, doing this can screw your sound setup.

DC,
Thanks for the files. I'll look at it - but no guarantee we can do anything about it. It's the stock installer from Puppy, unchanged from previous rcs and betas.

For others - I've found issues with the skype pet. I'm pulling that one off until I can find a better solution to this unnecessary problem.

XArchiver doesn't seem to work right.

I burned the Fatdog64-500rc3 iso to a DVD+RW using Burniso2cd, booted the DVD, configured it, then shut down saving to the DVD. It booted back up as I had configured it. So multisession is working good. :)

I decided to install Skype, so I could talk to my brother, but when I went to extract the (27 MB) Skype static tar.bz2 download, XArchive wouldn't do it. When I installed Skype in Lucid Puppy, XArchiver extracted Skype just fine.

here is how i got alsa going:
opened program by clicking on desktop icon.
right clicked on alsa window to bring up settings option box.

now, immediately, go to dropdown box next to beginner, and select master of the universe. immediately save this by clicking the middle radio button on the bottom of the screen.

at this time changes can be made to the configuration. prior to saving experience level as master of the universe, although the options come up, the changes are not accepted as the program evidentally thinks you are a “beginner

Make sure you select "All files" when the "Extract files" dialog opens. Sometimes it defaults to "Selected files", and if you just click Extract, nothing happens, unless you have actually selected some files.

Skype is a 32bit only binary, the so-called static package from Skype isn't. Jamesbond just re-uploaded the Skype pet which includes some 32bit libs to make it work. Give that a try.

I am returning to Lucid after being very pleased with a fast Fatdog :)

I need xara and the 32 bit sfs is not working (well it so old fashioned . . .)

Much to my surprise I felt no inclination to swap to JWM window manager (but it is there).
Openbox is very similar and seems familiar / unobtrusive.
The only thing I missed was double clicking on taskbar to maximise . . .

I was watching full screen streaming (but not screaming) video from the BBC
and the refresh was noticeably slow. Could be 64 bit flash? Not sure.
Tried installing the ATI driver from the package manager but seemed to make no difference.

Yesterday using Buddhist Elephant gods
the faith of kittens [aaahh h h]
and the Power of Puppy Linux Fatdog64 with Openshot
I was able to create this promotion of
heretical Buddhism

You don't need Faith that Puppy is 64 bit capable
You can penguinate
it for yourself (not sure what that means)

Live Long and prosper
May all Beings Benefit

etc.

@Jamesbond

more Universal installer tests:

tried rc2, beta3, beta2, previously installed beta2, beta3 frugal installs, beta3 full install. All 64 bit puppies affected.

tried lucid201, qurky1.2 and stardust13. All 32 bit puppies ok

ran fsck on all linux partitions, some errors but all fixed. All above puppies boot Ok

Thanks DC for testing. The puppyinstaller script in FD64 is old. I never used it - I always configure grub4dos manually and then just copy over the files.
I'll get one from woof and see if it works - if it does, I'll upload it here (or, if you have woof, you can get it yourself from the rootfs-skeleton/usr/sbin).

EDIT: puppyinstaller from woof works, it's attached here. I don't see any differences between this and the old one though - I wiped out my test disk, created 16 partitions out of order (just like yours), and puppyinstaller saw them all. What gives?

EDIT: puppyinstaller from woof only works for frugall install, it DOES NOT work for full install - Fatdog64 requires heavy modification for that. Thus I'm removing attachment.

. Bravo!! , with rc3 ,less problem with 4 Gb ram on intel gm965 /gma x3100 freezing up , was it the kernel? anyhow I was able to do a frugal install ,finally....got lot of weird behaviour ,probably because it look like my lappy need "nolapic" boot argument .
Fastest puppy i've tested yet!!! Did not tested any pets . I've found one thing wrong for now: enable touchpad double tap does not work .

Very nice work!!!

Probably. Thanks to kirk, rc3 is running the latest bleeding edge kernel - 2.6.34, with latest alsa as well. If yours is a very new laptop, well, expect a few iteration of kernels first before it is fully supported
Anyway, how did you enable the double tap? Can you please open a terminal and copy the output of

Code: Select all

synclient -l
(that's a "minus sign" followed by a small letter "L").

My wife's laptop has a new Synaptics Alps touch pad that's not supported by the kernel yet. Some folks have hacked alps.c in the kernel so that it recognizes the touch pad, but it still doesn't work.

I compiled XaraLX and uploaded a pet package.

EDIT: It also needs wxwidgets, I'll make a pet package for that.

EDIT2: Uploaded wxwidgets pet packages and re-uploaded XaraXL with wxwidgets listed as a dependency.
