When I am viewing a movie from http://hulu.com (in this case ICHI) it runs fine for a while then crashes the Seamonkey 2.04 browser.

When I reopen the browser it will restore but hulu.com starts at the beginning.

I was running fullscreen on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-28 (Intel mobile Pentium III 1G with 768m RAM).

Where should I start looking for the source of the problem, please?

BTW1: It seems to be handling the usually-tough http://myfoxhurricane.com site fine.

BTW2: http://foxnews.com pops up a searchlight type fullscreen ad and the "Skip This Ad ..." option does not respond to a mouse click.

I am having trouble linking to my Seamonkey profile which is located outside of the Personal Storage.

It worked fine in 4.31 and previous.

Do I guess correctly that it may be due to the change to hda from sda in the Wary protocol?

NOTE: It is necessary to do things a little differently in Wary than in previous versions of Puppy. CatDude explained it to me and I will try to make and share some notes from a test on another PC.

WARNING! Be certain you have a recent backup of your Mozilla_Profiles folder as Puppy and Seamonkey are unforgiving - once deleted those files cannot be retrieved ... don't ask how I know this ... just too painful ... :-(

Thinkpad 600 fails to boot Wary 0.3

#50 Post by peebee »

My IBM Thinkpad 600 Type 2645 laptop does not boot from Live CD Wary 0.3 K2.6.27.47

Gets to:
"Searching for Puppy files in computer disk drives..."

halts for c. 5 mins

then in red says:

"wary-030.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial-ramdisk console...
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off"

Similar behaviour with Quirky 1.2 Retro K2.6.30.5 except no 5min halt - immediate red message.

Last working Puppy on this hardware was Puppy 4.2.1 Retro K2.6.21.7

Cheers
Peter

Should I ignore the several lines of error code every time I Reboot or Shutdown Wary 030 or should I not be seeing that?

If I need to post them where do I find the log where they are saved?

I think Barry is already aware of them

Here is a snippet from the above link:
BarryK wrote: With Udev 124 and 151, there are also some error messages at shutdown with the 2.6.27.47 kernel.
This may also have something to do with the rules.
I don't understand the messages, but they don't seem to be critical. UDEV_LOG=2 also hides these.

Hi PeeBee

Try acpi=force on the kernel line in menu.lst
or at boot-up if booting from cd.

Hope that helps

Best regards - Ray

I have added it, will report what happens next time I reboot.

I had acpi=noirq

From the sounds of it this is a known and unresolved problem that does not appear to create any identified problems.

Thanks!

Seamonkey 2.0.4 troubles?

I am having trouble with SM 2.0.4 not handling http://foxnews.com and also having trouble with its own "Check for updates", in both cases it just searches but never opens either resource.

CTRL ALT BACKSPACE REFUSES on both my computers

CTRL ALT BACKSPACE REFUSES on both my computers

Live cd

When I boot on laptop and do not choose xorg (which works on laptop) but "vesa": blackscreen, and ctrl alt bckspc does not work.

When I boot on my dtop, connected to a tv-monitor and I do choose xorg "probe", end up blackscreen and ctrl alt does not work either.

(This dtop/tv monitor only showed xorg in quirky 008).

It seems to be working OK now.

It may be something stuck in the buffer of my local PC, something with the router or my ISP, or something at the foxnews end (server overload, updates being posted).

Foxnews has recently changed their layout so they may be actively tweaking the code.

I will report if the problem(s) return.

Is anyone else seeing a rendering problem on this site?
https://hardinsystems.com/main1.htm

My toolbar is repeated over and over as a background to his site layout.

This one also does something similar but only in the white column area down the middle:

Thanks Ray - that certainly allows Wary 0.3 to boot - however (isn't there always) during boot in the "Loading drivers needed to access disk drives" line it says ..Disabling IRQ #10..

and then when booted I have no wifi - my pcmcia Netgear MA401 wifi card is not detected.....

Cheers

Wary 0.3.0 on Toshiba Satellite 4010 CDS

#61 Post by kevin bowers »

This is a Pentium 2 with 96MB RAM. It's an old monster, weighs a ton, but it's perfect for sitting on my toolbox at work. It's been running Puppy 3.0.1. I've wanted to upgrade its wi-fi from a USB unit to a PCMCIA card (Realtek 8180-base) that I have but it would never work under Puppy 3.0.1. Lack of PCMCIA-Utils? I don't know, but it works under Wary. Wary also has the active desktop drive icons, and I've become used to them. Yes, I'm spoiled.

At first boot I had problems with both the wi-fi and the sound.

While Barry's Simple Network Setup configured the wi-fi card just fine, it wouldn't reconnect at bootup. Fortunately, switching to Dougal's network setup cured that problem.

No such luck with the sound (Yamaha OPL3-SA3). Once again, alsaconf works fine and the sound is fine after running it, but after reboot no sound. I haven't found a workaround for this one, anyone have a suggestion?

I'll attach the hardinfo report.

For me this isn't a killdeal, I rarely use the sound on this computer anyway, but it's irritating. As far as the rest of it goes, I'm pleased as punch to have the upgraded wi-fi working and the active desktop icons. With the extra additon of a PCMCIA-USB2 card (the two just barely fit) I now have 3 open USB ports instead of none; This makes the machine much more powerful and easier to use. Now if I could just find a good battery for it...

Scanning and printing both work, and I've seen no evidence of any problems with the kernel and EXT4, on this or my other Wary-powered box (both are full installations. There's a previous post on the other one).

The rendering problem I mentioned is now showing up in certain E-mails.

Please see attached.

What would cause this, and the other weird rendering, please?

I have a WINE whine ...

I used Puppy Package Manager and loaded WINE.

It generated a list of a few missing files or something but then said no dependencies were missing - that was confusing.

Anyhow, I can see the WINE is partially installed by typing "wine" in console but it is not in the MENU and I really need it to be drag & drop and if-possible to engage when a MS version of windows .exe or other executable is clicked.

WDYT?

Hello, people.

I'm not sure this belongs here, but I'd like to know if it is Wary related.

Previously, I could either boot from HD with the Grub menu or from my Wary auto-boot DVD.

I've noticed that since I've installed the Wine package in Wary, the boot sector on the HD gets wiped out, and I have to use the Super Grub Boot CD to repair the booting.

Has anybody had this problem before, on Wary or on another Puppy or distro ?

Questions that come to mind:
* is my HD getting too old ?
* does the wine package in the depot contain a bug or worse ?
* is it Wary's reaction to getting fat ?
* some other interaction between Wine and Wary ?
* would there be any programs or libs in the Wary/Quirky depot that need to be installed on HD and not on autoboot DVD ? (I feel silly to ask, but who knows?)

I'd be grateful for any help or pointers. Thanks in advance.

Here is another example of a Web site that does not render correctly:

http://tidmouth89.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tv

The problem occurs when images are allowed (Accept all Images) - otherwise the images are not displayed at all.

Is this a Seamonkey-specific problem or something unique to video drivers in Puppy Wary or ???

BTW: I have seen this on three different laptops from different manufacturers and with different chipsets.

WDYT?
