When I try to add a printer to CUPS I follow the instructions to open Manage Printers -- and get a blank screen.

Wary 030 comes with the old CUPS 1.3.11

I am guessing this may be related to the video driver problem ... has anyone else seen problems with CUPS in Wary?

I was hoping that Wary would help to solve the chronic CUPS problems as we have been unable to use our printers here for several weeks and I blamed the old 4.2 version along with conflicting versions of CUPS on the same network.

Everything that is connected at the moment is using Wary 030 and CUPS is unmodified from the stock Wary 030 distro on all of the computers.

WDYT?

EDIT

I used http://startpage.com with "puppy linux cups 1.3.11" and found this:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=52100

I will try some of the suggestions there and see if it helps ...

I just set up a fresh frugal install of wary-030 and CUPS runs fine.

If I run the CUPS wizard and go directly to Manage Printers, I see the pre-installed CUPS-PDF device.

If I use Administration>Find New Printers, I can install a printer as usual. If I then go to Manage Printers , I can see them both.

Well, that's not helpful! You were supposed to have the same result as me ... ;-)

Seriously, I have to presume it is somehow related to the yet-to-be-reolved video driver problem.

Thanks for looking!

Is it safe to upgrade Flash for Seamonkey from the ADOBE site or do I need a version tested for Seamonkey in Wary 030?

I don't want to risk breaking anything as I have in the past when upgrading from a source other than Puppy.

Someone told me that a Flash upgrade may solve a problem I am having.

This is the latest Flash from ADOBE:
Linux Mozilla, Firefox, SeaMonkey 10.1.53.64

WDYT?

EDIT 1:

It is OK to download the latest Linux tar.gz for Flash from ADOBE and to replace the existing one in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins

It solved the problem with syfy.com

EDIT 2:

It did not solve the rendering problem on http://drudgereport.com where the header is overlaid on top of occasional imagest.

This same problem also occurs on other sites and in some E-mails with embedded images.

I am guessing, since it was not solved by the Flash upgrade, that it may be related to the yet-to-be-resolved video driver issue.

QUESTION: Could a driver problem harm the video card in a laptop? We just had a second laptop go down with a hardware-related video failure. Could the video cards be overheating with heavy video usage exacerbated by a bad driver?

I don't see Wary on the Categories list of Barry's Blog.

Was Wary 030 a Final with no plans to revisit it with a 040?

Barry posted Seamonkey 2.0.5 for "spup" which is Slackware-based.
I don't know what is the value-added over the 2.0.4 version packaged with Wary 030 -- is there one and if so is there an update coming for Wary 030, please?

Comparing Current Barry-Puppies...

Wary 030 seems the most stable but for some reason CUPS will not behave for us.

4.3.1 seemed to have a lot of challenges but appears to be under active refinement - there were too many quirks in our experience.

Quirky & spup seem to be the most bleeding-edge, neither really appropriate for productivity apps - more for fun.

WDYT?

Released June 9th, most recent post on the link to Barry's blog is June 16th.

While it was ID'd as a "needs testing" it is the most stable and versatile of the bunch in our experience across 6 different brands of laptops.

xorg fails on my ACER Aspire laptop with ATI Radeon HD9200.

I have tried every conceivable setting, xorg, vesa, Choose ati, Choose radeon, Choose radeonhd, no joy.

LHP and Lucid can handle my ACER but not Wary 030.

Is it because of the version of xorg?

If so is there a workaround or will I have to use a different Puppy?

I am trying to have the same Puppy on all of the computers for simplicity of support and minimal potential variables when troubleshooting.

WDYT?

For Radeon HD video cards, I guess it needs module called "radeonhd".

From my prior post:

I have decided to wait for Barry's imminent release of SPUP 040

I'm using Wary 030 on my medium-aged desktop pc, AMD Sempron 2600 1.8GHz, 1GB RAM.

It works good except some little flaws:

I could connect with my Atheros AR5001X+ wifi card at first attempt (while latest OpenSUSE and Debian always failed  ) but:

Pwireless2 does not start: I get an ok message if I'm already online ("You have finished running Jemimah..."), nothing if I'm not

The Simple Network Setup works but not all boots I get connected, so I have to select my router and input my WEP key again into SNS, then 9/10 I get connected.
The Network wizard seems not to work better.
_________

Other minimal issue: I could not configure my laser printer (Samsung ML-1640) using CUPS but I downloaded Samsung "linux unified driver" (can't remember how many megs big) and I got it to work.

(Haven't tryied to setup my Epson DX3850 scanner yet.)

Thanks for support.

I tried 070 with newest kernel but no sound and no wlan (I haven’t tried latest modem fix).

I tried 070 with retro kernel and latest modex fix: wlan and sound but no video wmv streams.

I tried 060 but no wmv video streams.

So, I’m back on 030. Can anyone help me to update 030-Retrovol? This R-thing has memory for settings on 060 but starts muted on 030.

Btw. (Flash) Video stream quality is TOP-excellent on 030 using 24-bit xorg and flashplayer 10.1.82.
