Posting this from Spup 02 now.

The puplet developers will want this. The Package Manager contains Firefox 3.6.3 and Thunderbird 3.0.4.

My ATI Radeon 3450 video card was recognised by xorg without having to use kernel mode-setting.

After the missing WLAN library file needed by wpa_supplicant was installed, the Ralink wireless card got configured OK. (see comment on Barry's blog about the missing library).

Abiword has a wee video problem when it starts. You see a corrupted empty document view. On scrolling once - the correct view then appears.

I wonder if this is an x-org problem here.

I'll play further with it and see what I can find in the way of bugs.

Further bugs in SPup 020:

Xsane has many missing libraries and refuses to start.

CUPS is not accessible at localhost:631 even though the CUPS daemon is running.

Opening ROX sometimes needs two clicks on the desktop icon.

Wireless Lan seems to disconnect after about 20 mins.

Wallpaper setter doesn't work.

Hi

Basically it works - other than gnumeric.
Tried desktop icon, menu and then console - no go.
Had to setup touchpad tapping -
whereas with wary03 it was automatic.
(out of interest - wary runs extremely well on this machine)
Spup feels more like Quirky - not quite so slick on this machine.

Running on my 7/8yr old laptop - acpi is activated
(not normally so for this laptop without using
"acpi=force" in the kernel line in menu.lst)(old bios?)

128mb ram (less shared video) = 92mb ram available,
VIA C3 1Ghz proc.
manual frugal install to ext2 on sda1 -
wired network connection via shared router.

Posting from it now - also attatched hardinfo report if of any interest.

As always from BK - basically a nice puppy -
wish I new more in order to offer more constructive help -
maybe in time - lots to learn.

Many thanks and as always - best regards - Ray

I updated the repos in puppy package manager and have installed several applications from the slackware repository,
Midnight commander,nano,qt-462,xchat,firefox 363.
Firefox updated to 364 and the check extentions feature in firefox recommended updating flashplayer so I did that.
Pfind was missing from the menu but I installed it with a pet from the quirky repo on ibiblio.

That's it so far.
Thanks
Bill

Barry's new spup 020 works great on my system using a frugal installation and the “nv” driver.

Few errors noted so far:

1. Cups setup gives 404 Not found error.
2. Abiword opens up with an unusual new page, however, scrolling down corrects it.
3. Gnumeric will not run, executing from command line returns: bash: gnumeric: command not found.

Thanks again for continuing to refine your woof system,
Jim

I did Choice and wrote Nvidia and it accepted that choice and the video-report confirmed it. BBC played good. Radio worked.

But Gnome Mplayer failed to play anything I gave to it.
Does mplayer require some detailed video set up to work?
What could make it fail that miserably?

To get gnome-mplayer functional, added these slackware 13.1 packages:
libdv
faac
libcdio
faad2
opencore-amr
libusb-1.0

Then either add symlink:
ln -s /usr/lib/libcdio.so.7.1.1 /usr/lib/libcdio.so.12
or find a newer version of libcdio

Thanks for making it work. I am so hooked on Quirky 1.0 so I wait until Barry K add these to the iso so I don't screw up things. Much appreciated that you explained why it failed to work.

Wow so we can use things from Slack that easily.

The Lucid Puppy needs pet for such things but Slackware repository just works?

TO ANYONE COMING ACROSS THIS THREAD FOR THE FIRST TIME

Spup 020 was my first-go at creating a pup from Slackware 13.1 packages.

It has lots of bugs. I'm knocking them down fast, and Spup 021 is not far away, so you might want to wait for that.

Out of interest i downloaded and put a frugal install of this spup on my toshiba laptop and the same problem with internal pcmcia wifi module not being detected.
Checked rc.pcmcia and found the problem in the script, un hashing lines 15 & 16 enabled the module detection on reboot.
Intel video detected by probe OK and highest resolution obtained.
Same libraries missing as already reported.
I do like the slack packages available from package manager.
Looking forward to the next release, it can only get better.
