Goggles Music Manager 12.4 for Racy Puppy

#1 Post by Billtoo »

I made an sfs of Goggles Music Manager 12.4 in Racy Puppy-5.1.110
Linux 3.0.7.
It contains all the required dependencies and is approximately 7 mb in
size.
Put it in /mnt/home and load it with the bootmanager or use shinobar's
sfs_load-1.2.9.pet to load it on the fly.

As far as I know it only works in Racy Puppy-5.1.110 Linux 3.0.7

The download link is:

Hi @Billtoo

This is probably an uninformed request, but, is there any chance that you would package this as a PET. This would allow those of us who use Live media (CD/DVD) to test and make it easy to have its functionality survive across reboots and be recognized within the PPM.

I would like to test you offering here.

Thanks if you can.

No icons, but it works just dandy without them :)

I tried to make one for Slacko but it needed mesa loaded (20mb) to work so I'll leave making one to 01micko.

You ought to be able to load and unload the sfs with shinobar's sfs loader I think when you are using live media.

True. To get icons working you have to install the Tango iconset, which is about half a meg I think. Actually Goggles only uses a tiny number, so I may have a go at producing a 'slim' icon pack for it. Would only need about a dozen I think.

Slacko needs a few more libs than Racy.

Thanks @Billtoo. But I'm not sure why I would need to load/unload SFS-Loader when i want to make a permanent install to the system.

I just burned the racy iso to a dvd+rw and booted it with pfix=ram.
I installed shinobar's sfs_load-1.2.9.pet,then copied
gogglesmm-0.12.4-racy-i686.sfs to the root directory.
I loaded the sfs with SFS-Load on-the-fly in the setup menu.
I ran goggles music manager and it worked fine, then I rebooted saving to
the dvd.
I did a normal boot from the dvd and when it got to the desktop the
goggles entry wasn't in the multimedia menu but when I ran gogglesmm
from the terminal it started up.I should have run fixmenus from the
terminal and then restarted x (I think) before doing the first session
save to the dvd and I think the menu entry would have survived the
reboot. The goggles program survived but the menu entry didn't.

You said you wanted to test the sfs and have it survive a reboot, it
does, along with shinobar's SFS-Load on-the-fly.
If you had decided that you didn't like/want goggles you would have
been able to remove the sfs with SFS-Load on-the-fly which was what
you wanted wasn't it?

Thanks @Billtoo. I'll give this a run.

Found these 2 items that may interest
  • Back in the spring, I saw this on the gogglemm site.. I was intrigued then by Gogglemm (GMM). Its site makes it clear and is well structured for easy information finds about this utility. Glad you brought it to our attention.
  • You may have noticed there that a Puppy forum member back in March had some similar problems that we are, too, seeing.
Your Post of your Live media efforts
You provide us very good information for anyone who need add GMM to their system. You may want to add these instructions to your original post. I think it applies to all users.

Last question
Is the reason for an SFS versus a PET because of the dependencies or ease of installation?

Hope this helps

At Icepuppy time I did hunt all needed icons. The goggles pet link was posted during that time. I believe the pet is still in smokey01 under Pets folder. Also philb666 posted the goggles icons pet couple of days ago in 214X thread.

http://www.smokey01.com/pemasu/Pets/goggles-0.12.1.pet

From that pet (as extracted) you get the icons also.

I don't suppose there's any chance of a newer compile for Puppy 4.3.1, is there? :P

I've been using the version jemimah posted, a while back... kept running into problems when I tried to compile it myself (mainly with fox). :(
[ Puppy 4.3.1 JP, Frugal install ] * [ XenialPup 7.5, Frugal install ] * [XenialPup 64 7.5, Frugal install] * [ 4GB RAM | 512MB swap ]
In memory of our beloved American Eskimo puppy (1995-2010) and black Lab puppy (1997-2011).

Just a thank you for the .sfs. I run gogglesmm in AntiX also and it is my preferred ogg radio streaming player.

Works just fine in racy. I can live without icons also.

I believe that it works too, with Music Bazaar

I will test with my Racy Puppies.. I believe that it works too, with Music Bazaar
Music sites are to be tested ( will not work with Deezer)
You will have access to free stuff;. Music Bazaar let's you download the first minute of each song.. As many songs as you like..
Then you can buy your preferred ones.
Music Bazaar is Greek, so lot of Greek Music, that will change you of US standards.
