chrismt wrote:I was thinking about Grub2

Is it possible for it to work in Puppy?

GRUB2 can boot a USB in a computer that can't normally boot a USB drive.

Yes, you can use Grub2. Lots of info here http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=45961

OMG playdayz, xchat insulted me too!
But root users aren't to joke with, some of them can modify code!

So I grabed xchat 2.8.8 source and removed this little condition here from xchat-2.8.8/src/common/cfgfiles.c on line 760 that says:

Code: Select all

	if (getuid () == 0)
fe_message (_("* Running IRC as root is stupid! You should\n"
							"  create a User Account and use that to login.\n"), FE_MSG_WARN|FE_MSG_WAIT);
Then I compiled it with some stuff disabled to make it lighter:

Code: Select all

./configure --build=i486-pc-linux-gnu --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --disable-nls --disable-libtool-lock --disable-python --disable-perl --disable-plugin --disable-dbus
I believe that was the line, haven't really saved it after compiling :P

So yeah here's the striped pet for lupu:
xchat-2.8.8-i486-lupu.pet 246 KB, about 552 KB installed/uncompressed
No additional dependencies needed.

Lupu-511RC testing

#528 Post by scruffy »

Lupu-511 RC upgrading from Lupu-510
-----------------------------------------------------

All seems well . Sound and Internet work as expected.

Opera/Opera Mail are fine

All installed pets are also working.

I tried XFCE4 pet - it shows promise but I think ICEWM in Lupu-510 is hard to beat. :)

Cheers

@ Dejan

Your Xchat is really cool, very small size but it got installed under Menu-Network. It should be under Internet right?

Thanks!

Yeah I also noticed it misses menu icon, I can probably modify that, it's the default desktop file that came with it, I'll repack with new menu entry.

Hi all

Sound issues sorted on new box with the use of a old SB live sound card, have set my daughters machine on 511 (wireless sorted once I new what encryption was being used and remembering to save profile) with network wizard. Daughter been using 511 for 8 hours and she cant break it (10 years old, mainly on games, youtube and facebook). Now the wife is having a go (and belive me she can break anything LOL) It is looking very good indeed.

I am still using ayttm on MSN no problem

Cheers

whois outputs to server window (freenode) but is almost same as right-clicking user name then holding mouse cursor over username at top. It adds a little more info.

pemasu wrote:Testing now stu90`s tunapie.pet and audacious. Works fine. Still wonder the big size of the tunapie.pet 17.5 Mb. Are all the dependencies really needed ? When I tested pulseaudio and stream2ip I had to install only one dependency and total install was much less than 17.5 Mb. I had already installed already a lot of libs and dependencies so I am not best person to evaluate.
I already stripped some of the dependencies ubuntu always wants to install, im sure there is further room to strip more out but i don't know about the others for what else is safe to remove but still keep the program working - If you already have lots of dependencies and libs already installed may be best build tunapie.pet with pdebthing on your PC that way you dependency check only against what you already have installed then Pdebthing will only download what is needed to get tunapie working on your PC. Probably wouldn't be able to share the finished .pet as not every one will have the same debs and libs installed as you do but it should cut down on the size. Check out Iguleder Pdebthing thread, i made a little GUI for pdebthing so it is easy to use. 8)

stu90: don't forget Pdebthing only detects built-in packages, not user-installed packages.

There's a good reason for this: packages that were made with it can be shared. I can change this in a Pdebthing update if you want ... maybe another option.

Thank you dejan555, Your polite xchat is now the one in the puppy-lucid repo of Puppy Package Manager. Please remember that the latest index to the puppy-lucid repo is always available in LupuNews and at
http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... d-official Just download it and copy it into /root/.packages--it may be necessary to reboot or to remove any ending from the file.

Here is a version of Aytmm 0.6.1 that is built with Ubuntu binaries. Possibly it could run better than the one that is installed, if anyone could test.

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... -Lucid.pet

This might be more stable since it is built with the Ubuntu files. It also contains gnu-privacy stuff, which could be removed to make it smaller--I doubt that the default ayttm has it. I am pushing it because if it did work well it could be in an Instant Update without altering much of anything..

Hi all
Bad news playdayz I am afraid
Stripe wrote: Just built a new box for somebody and I am trying it out, (card ASRock N68C-S UCC, amd x2 3000mhz dual core chip. nvidia C61[GeForce7025/nForce 630a] (rev a2) on board graphics/sound and 1gb ddr2 ram)

The graphics work perfectly (better than a graphics card) with the 173.14.25 driver, but gnome mplayer or Pmusic will not work properly with the sound, you can set the playlist at a reasonable volume but as soon as the next track starts the volume goes to max, have tried all the settings in alsamixer and no joy, installed vlc as the default sound/play/video player and no problems.
Have tried a SBlive soundcard and everything played OK, went back to luci-219 and no problems with the onboard sound. going to try luci-222 and then the latest woof built version that I did to see if I can find anything else.

Cheers

Backgammon pet in repository

#541 Post by scruffy »

playdayz wrote: I have uploaded a new version of Bibletime today, plus Gnu_Backgammon prepared by tronkel, and xchat. .
Hi playdayz,

tronkel's Backgammon pet (gnubg-1.0.pet) had a missing dependency (libgmp.so.3) and
the problem has now been carried over to the repository.

I have repackaged the pet with the missing lib.

You can get it here.

Ayttm 0.6.1 : even after reboot crashing with sig11 looking for updates

I Installed ayttm-2008409.pet which is actually Ayttm 0.5.0-37
and ayttm-0.6.0-p4.pet which is Ayttm 0.6.0-0
from the /4 repository and both worked

after installing and uninstalling I suddenly had somehow three menu entries of Ayttm and Ayttm 0.6.3-1 again ... :D

It looks like Macpup_Foxy3 has got an updated ayttm to 0.6.0-9 before runtt21 remastered it.

The XCHAT 2.8.8 from dejan555 is working without showing this insulting message . I mv`ed /root/.xchat2 to /Backup before running it

I hope that this is the language patched version (dl half an hour ago)

nice work everybody !

Sure enough. Thanks scruffy. I am uploading it now.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lucid Puppy 5.1.1 is now released. It is the same iso and sfs as the release candidate. Thanks everyone.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Gobby, an editor for collaborative projects is added to the puppy-lucid repo of PPM. It was prepared by Stu90. I have some more of his to go.

Hey there I'm posting from lupu 5.1.1 nice that you squezed midori in and still have same iso size as 5.1!
My gprs modem wasn't autodetected though in this one had to modprobe it.
I did try ayttm though and it worked with msn surprisingly (but it crashed on IRC).
lupu still display some warnings about deprecated config files
"WARNING: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf, all config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/."

Will go thru other stuff.
