alt+space launch bug?

#181 Post by jomazq »

when i press alt-space for the launcher and look for puppy package manager - i found the item in the list but it takes me to dependency checker instead.

then i found out that the only way i figured out to find the package manager was through the install icon and then clicking the package manager button in the bottom right of the dialog box.

does that need to be fixed?

#182 Post by gregmc1000 »

Hi,

Since the puppeee website is down I'm hoping someone else has the puppeee4.4-RC2atom.zip file for me to download. Is it available?

Thanks

dont have atom could possibly do celeron if need be . would have to go looking or it and sort a host.
mostly i'm using luci001 these days it suits my eeepc. and if you have an issue with luci001 there is active knowledgeable help. puppeee is withering on the vine by the day but still good.

I am using Snow puppy. Pemasu learned a lot from Puppeee and Fluppy
what drivers to add and how to set the Wlan going and RFKILL and such
that many other puppies don't care about.

puppeee4.4-RC2atom.zip was that a kind of add on then or what?
Did nobody mirror her files?
Smokey or somebody?

I have the puppeee 4.4? iso if that has what you need?
How can one extract the file you talk about and what is it for?

Maybe it exists in Snow puppy too?
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

It's the OS. Jemimah set up her later versions that way."Uzip into bootable drive. run bootinst.sh file in boot folder." and the OS is installed.

okay I do remember more now. I think I only have the iso for Celeron and not for Atom. Which is od because my Netbook is an Atom N270
so must have had it on USB and never on the hdd then.

I do have something named Puppeee 1.0 rescue on a USB.
Could that one have what some of you guys need?
in the other thread them have given several links to Smokey hosted servers with jemimah/puppy files on them. So take a good look there

ive installed the puppeee version 1 for celeron on 2 atom based emachines netbooks and it worked fine except for the sdcard reader. just reporting back on this as altho the atom version would technically work a little faster on the atom, if you only have access to a celeron iso then you can most likely still use it until you get your hands on the atom iso. i havent tried it the other way around (ie. the atom puppee running on celeron).

i did this while visiting someone who bought 2 atom based netbooks for his kids and i only had a puppeee for celeron cd with me and it all worked fine and it has for about a year now with no bad reports back.

omg so what has happend to jemimah? just lost interest, did she die or get sick or something or loose her data from her server?

i hope nothing bad has happend to her as i think the puppeee and fliuppy are the best steps forward that puppy has seen for years and also she is rather like able and intelligent and witty and she will be sorely missed if she had left the puppy community

Jemimah wrote: Maybe. Probably until I get another job where I'm chained to a desk with nothing to do.
So the worst case scenario is that that text says she has no job at all and fail to pay rent for the server hosting and have nowhere to live and thus no internet and no computer? Could it really be that bad?

I try to take it as positive as possible. Maybe I am too naive.

I trust she did have a job that also allowed her to spend some time also on Puppeee and Fluppy but now she have a job that is very demanding and that she had to move to a new expensive place to live to be near her new job and this is all together has taking all of her time.

on the other hand if she failed to get a job then that explains she had to buy food instead of paying for the site but it does not explain she giving up on puppeee because out of job then she has a lot of time to write code? Sorry wild speculation
But I totally fail to get her text.

That may be one of the understatement of the year

I think we need to realize that for whatever reasons(s) she killed off Puppee and Fluppy.

Of course I could be wrong...she may be slaving away working on newer versions of her creations.

well I looked up her hosting and if you eeepc guys get together maybe you can pay it for a few months or a yr for her. Its cheap enough, maybe just contact them and give her site address http://www.webfaction.com/services/hosting is the hosting she used.

When I talked to the ISP, they didn't seem to be very cooperative at all. Perhaps someone else can have better luck.

But if it was all about the money then she could just have asked us
and most likely we would have given it to her.

I hope I am wrong but her silence tell me that she lost motivation
and if one have no motivation then no money would bring it forth.
Such has to come from within volunteerely or else it is payed job!

There are several members of the forum that may have given her free web space....I know I would have.

With no announcement from her...one can come to several conclusions.

I hated to do it....but there were over 300 accounts used for spam....and
it simply took too much time to keep it cleaned out.
