VIA - openchome

#31 Post by mavrothal »

I have Puppylinux 5.1.1 ruining on the OLPC XO-1.5 that has a VIA7 cpu and the VX800/VX820 chipset and I have problems with the openchrome driver.

Neither the default settings nor videowizard work. Modifying xorg.conf produces a usable driver but I have the problem that the camera is turned on all the time.
Even if I specify to " Disable "record" " module an/or " Oprion "I2CDevices" "Bus1" ", to ignore the bus that the camera is on, it is still loading record extension and looks at Bus1, 2 and 3 for I2CDevices.

Where these defaults are defined? How can you over ride them?

Thx

On the one hand it is deprecated but on the other we need the conf file as well
it might be possible to download the source code of the `/sbin/modprobe` binary `which` I thought would be a link to `busybox` and delete/comment the(se) warning messages .... :?:

Re: loosing wifi connection again.

Last advice given was to put SeaMonkey in direct connection to the net, not via the system proxy setting.

Being back I tried first as it was and the connection seemed stable.
Now I installed 511 and the problem is back.

So time to set SeaMonkey to direct connection.

But the problem is still there.

When I look in /etc/resolv.con, the nameserver line is gone.
I issue dhcpcd eth1 (the wireless device) and the connection is ok again.
This repeats itself now.

So apparently the setting direct connect doesn't seem to cure the problem.
This morning I booted again from Lucid. After a while of no activity I lost again the connection. Nameserver entry in /etc/resolv.conf gone again.
But the trick to re-establish the connection with dhcpcd eth1 didn't work.
I had to reboot and redo the connection wizard (SNS) to have my connection back.

HI!!.. Well i tried 5.1 in a Dell Latitude C600 (PIII 750, 256MB Ram, Ati Rage 128), With Puppy 4.3.1, the Xorg config. file was extensive and very complete, i can use a 1024x768 resolution, but with 5.1, i just can get 800x600, with the modules loaded (r128 and DRI), i dont install Xorg_High, because it was just a test, but any idea of why?.. or... if i install Xorg_high it will fix things?...

sorry for my english........Axiz

Nameserver entry in /etc/resolv.conf gone again.
Hadn`t have had this specific "again" but to delete the first line
#nameserver go in here

and add

nameserver 123.456.78.90 ( your specific DNS )
and perhaps the second ( I`ve got two )

and click "Try Again" at the browser works for me if pupdial doesn't get it to write them to /etc/resolv.conf at first Setup .

rpm do not show at XArchive and rpm - command

#36 Post by Karl Godt »

Xarchive doesn`t seem to unrpm

there is rpm-wrap.sh at /usr/local/bin/xarchive/wrappers

but it shows a blank page of /root/Downloads/module-init-tools/module-init-tools-3.6-7mdv2010.0.i586.rpm which is

module-init-tools-3.6-7mdv2010.0.i586.rpm: 85 K

Total: 85 K (1 file)

from http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/mandriva/2010.0/i586/media/main/release/module-init-tools-3.6-7mdv2010.0.i586.html

Code: Select all

# rpm --help
BusyBox v1.16.2 (2010-06-19 18:02:46 GMT-8) multi-call binary.

Usage: rpm -i -q[ildc]p PACKAGE.rpm

Manipulate RPM packages

Options:
	-i	Install package
	-q	Query package
	-p	Query uninstalled package
	-i	Show information
	-l	List contents
	-d	List documents
	-c	List config files

# rpm -q /root/Downloads/module-init-tools/module-init-tools-3.6-7mdv2010.0.i586.rpm
# rpm -l /root/Downloads/module-init-tools/module-init-tools-3.6-7mdv2010.0.i586.rpm
# rpm -d /root/Downloads/module-init-tools/module-init-tools-3.6-7mdv2010.0.i586.rpm
: no output at all

I also couldn`t find anything about "unrpm" at the devx until now

I searched the forum and downloaded roundabout a dozen .pet for .rpm`s -- will take me a while to run them

/root/Downloads/RPM/Unrpm44.pup
which I can`t trace back half an hour later .... so I `ll attach it here also

DotPup packages (files with .pup extension) are an older
package system superceded by PET packages. If you want to
install a DotPup package, you must first run the PETget
package manager (see install icon on desktop) and install
the 'dotpuphandler' and 'puppybasic' PET packages.
:?: --was not able to find these two too until now .

modprobe 3.11.1 versus older modprobe Versions !!

#40 Post by Karl Godt »

Thanks 8-Bit !

your pet seems to run only by commandline and gives some confusing output but it converts the .rpm to .tar.bz2 ...which is easily uncompressed by XArchive .

Now also ./configure and make are working by mounting the 511-devx-sfs at frugal boot.

I mv`ed /sbin/modprobe --version 3.11.1 to /sbin/Backup/ and copied just the `modprobe` binary --version 3.6 to /sbin/ while running and :

Code: Select all

# modprobe --version
module-init-tools version 3.11.1
# modprobe uhci_hcd
WARNING: Deprecated config file /etc/modprobe.conf, all config files belong into /etc/modprobe.d/.

Code: Select all

# which modprobe
/sbin/modprobe
# modprobe --version
module-init-tools version 3.6
# modprobe uhci_hcd

# lsmod

usbcore 91279 7 uhci_hcd,option,usbserial,usb_storage,usbhid,ohci_hcd
seems to work

I downloaded a modprobe 3.1.2 src from debian and would have to figure it out where to get 3.11.* src versions

openchrome, devx

#42 Post by mavrothal »

I tried to compile the openchrome driver from source (xf86-video-openchrome-0.2.904) with lupu_devx_511.sfs and I got

Code: Select all

checking for XVMC... configure: error: Package requirements (x11 xext xvmc) were not met:
No package 'xvmc' found
Are X devel tools in the devx?
Any ideas how to get around this?

Change-log of modules-utils : http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/m/module-init-tools/module-init-tools_3.12-1.diff.gz
+module-init-tools (3.1-pre5-7) unstable; urgency=medium
+
+ * Fixed a very obscure postinst failure. (Closes: #269481)
+ * Fixed a very obscure preinst failure.
+ * Silence md5sum in preinst.
+ * New patch manpage_warnings: adds warnings about modprobe.conf vs.
+ modprobe.d usage in the init script
and the update-modprobe, modprobe
+ and modprobe.conf man pages, by Eduard Bloch. (Closes: Bug#269305)

+module-init-tools (3.1-pre2-1) unstable; urgency=medium
+
+ * New upstream release. (Closes: #254204)
+ * Now /etc/modprobe.d/ is processed by modprobe. This means that
+ /etc/modprobe.conf and /lib/modules/modprobe.conf are not needed
+ anymore and update-modules is now a no-op. Executable scripts in
+ /etc/modprobe.d/ are not supported anymore.
+ /etc/modprobe.conf will be removed or moved to /etc/modprobe.d/.
+ * /etc/modprobe.devfs is now installed as an example file: I don't think
+ it works as is on debian, I do not know how it's supposed to work
+ now that /etc/modprobe.conf does not exist anymore and I could not
+ find anybody using it.

+ * Updated char-major-4 in arch/powerpc.pmac. (Closes: #252602)

These new things tend to be a bit buggy.
Try "exit to prompt", then type "poweroff".

Machines that don't shut down properly can sometimes be helped by adding "acpi=force" to the GRUB boot entry. For example

Code: Select all

 kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=....... acpi=force

Right, somebody taught me that some time ago.

(file icon)
arrow up
boot
grub
menu.lst

(my partition = sda2)

kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda2 ro vga=normal acpi=force

then: SAVE

Libgio

I wonder if this is a bug or a minor issue
