I am still on lucid 5.28_005. Try this:
-remove built-in sylpheed (Menu-Setup);
-install sfs_load-2.0-2.pet:

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=64354

-load sylpheed-3.4.1-p4.sfs.
Thank you, watchdog. Sorry, I wasn't sufficiently explicit.

The Sylpheed 3.4.1 does work.
The problem I have under Lucid 5.2.8.6 are only the program's exiting when I right-click an email message and then choose delete.

Perhaps the developers of the LuPu 5.2.8.6 somehow omitted a library? Or ????

Thank you,
Sheldon

PS: I will boot Lucid 5.28_005 and try your advice.

Have you read any error or warning if you launch sylpheed in console and delete a message? In my lupu 528_005 all works fine but sylpheed does not pop up on new messages arrival as in wary.

It seems like your libraries are not compatible. Perhaps it's problem of lupu 528_006.

EDIT: I had in lupu 528_005 a jwm upgrade version 657 compiled by me. I have now installed the official stable jwm2-755-w5c.pet and shino's sylpheed now correctly pop up on new messages arrival. In wary and puppy I already upgraded jwm. I think your problem could be jwm-related. Install the latest stable version:

Sylpheed send mails

#20 Post by Papy »

Sylpheed well list all my mails received.
But if send a message, waiting is too long and i got the error message 'time expired'
I think that my settings are wrong, but perhaps no.
How long is a 'normal' time' for sending mails ?
I first try Claws : it was exactly the same.
Thks for help.

Did your recipient get the message? Try sending an email to yourself and see what happens.

I found that this sylpheed sfs installs in many puppies but in recent puppies it can only receive messages: when I try to send a message it crashes. In lucid I have found that it installs well as a pet (you can obtain a pet from sfs): sfs_load does not correctly load it and there are some conflicts with the built-in sylpheed. What puppy are you using? I suggest to install this sylpheed in puppy 4 series and in wary; also in lucid installing it as a pet:

Problems with recent puppies. In slacko 5.7 I have a segmentation fault sending messages.

So, does anyone have Sylpheed 3.4.1 working successfully on Slacko Puppy v5.7?

If I uninstall Sylpheed 3.3.0 before installing 3.4.1 will I loose my emails?

I already wrote my problems with this sylpheed in slacko 5.7: it does not send emails. It works in precise 5.7.1 installed as a pet package.

You can backup /root/Mail and /root/.sylpheed-2.0 before trying.

I saw your post from back in September and was hoping the issue might have been resolved by now.

I'm getting the impression not a lot of people use Sylpheed. My own background is with Pegasus Mail from the Windows platform. Pegasus has a LOT of features not present in Sylpheed, features that probably are what keep it from working in Wine.

Thanks for the update!

No interest?

#29 Post by DAC324 »

Hello,

I am just wondering why this topic seems to be of no interest to anyone now. Nobody still using Puppy Linux?

Just curious,

Probably everyone else isn't using Sylpheed.

The forum is fairly active still.

Certainly I and others are using Puppy Linux.

Sylpheed is fine; for no particular reason, I've been using claws-mail for a while.

When I initially transitioned from Windows to Puppy Linux, I thought Sylpheed would be an idea replacement for Pegasus Mail.

Wrong.

Sylpheed is more like some sort of Pegasus version 1.01

I'm presently using Thunderbird email both on Windows at work and Linux here at home. It is exactly what I need for an email client.

Pelo

i never succeed before with mails expedition

#34 Post by Pelo »

i never succeed before sending mails, perharps i miss some settings, but with Sylpheed in PuppyBang (hungarian pupplet Tahrpup 6.0.2) it's a success
" Nom du serveur SMTP d’envoi : smtp.aol.com sur le port 587 et validez SSL/TLS ou StartTLS pour des échanges chiffrés, utilisez le nom de compte complet avec @aol.com ou aol.fr "
But no trace in my official sfr.fr of this message.
I add my mail address in copy, that is ok,
