Input Output error. How do I delete this file?

#1 Post by slavvo67 »

See attached. When I use rm -rf or try to right click and delete, I get an error. I think this occurred when my external drive accidentally disconnected without unmount but I'm not certain how this occurred. It might have been due to a ctrl-c when running a woof-Q script.

Tried to delete using Windows, also but it's on an EXT 2 partition.

You probably need to reformat the partition. If the partition contains any valuable data, first copy it to a safe location.

Yikes! The partition is rather large and contains my WoofQ builds. I guess if I have to reformat... well that's what I'll do....

Thanks!

fsck?

#4 Post by davids45 »

G'day slavvo67,

As I'm "a bit of an expert" at making errors (to paraphrase Daddy Pig  ), when I've made these in the past, I can usually remove them with an fsck for the affected partition.

Generally, they turn up on my data partitions in a similar way to your situation, so before backing up the particular partition, I run fsck from the terminal adding the particular device as the target to file-check (and fix, I hope :) ).
