Iguleder wrote:01micko, can you build a good ffmpeg and mplayer? Let's just try both. xine is dead in 002 because it has tons of dependencies in Debian, same goes for mplayer. They're simply huge.
I did so before, can do it again (hopefullly  , no need getting too cocky),

In Lupu I also tried to compile gxine/xinelib.. epic fail.

Be aware that the iso will grow somewhat. There are a ton of libs needed for a good ffmpeg, which IMO is the best, lightest media 'library' around. Compiling shared libs for ffmpeg seemed to work well. I'll give some things a try and hopefully there will be good multimedia support in this thingy.

(appendix... keep with 'dpup' monicker IMO for iso.. there are no toes to be trodden on  )

Cheers

Laptop touchpad tapping works in 001 but not in 002 for me - adding: Option "TapButton1" "1" to xorg.conf works for one double tap directly after restarting X then it reverts to not working again?

On the 002 version, i added the above package for vlc-1.1.0-i486-dpup.pet to work. Works great now - worked out of the box on 001.
see:
http://puppy.b0x.me/software/packages/m ... 6-dpup.pet
or
http://puppy.b0x.me/software/packages/m ... 6-dpup.pet
if you need the minimal qt deps of libqtcore and libqtgui.

stu90: tommorow I plan to do some experiment, add some minimal xorg.conf. That could solve the touchpad problems ... I work on my Core 2 Duo desktop machine because my netbook has an Atom processor and I don't want to compile stuff on it because of things like SSE3.

01micko: atm I'm working on ffmpeg. I'll try to make a good xine-lib too if it goes well :)

Hi there, I'm on dpup 002, running firefox because seamonkey segfaults and installing my 2.0.6 pet didn't solve the issue.
gtk-xfce theme engine seems to work ok.
Xorg works but I haven't tested any heavy games on it yet.
I still need to grab devx and maybe try to recompile seamonkey.

Can you compile just the browser and mail components? And maybe xchat with auto-connect? I tried your xchat PET and no auto-connect.

Try to install libssh2, maybe the segfaults happen because curl needs it.

EDIT: we could use chatzilla if it's good enough and saves space, I know you like it ... you're the expert, it's all up to you :)

It didn't segfault on webchat with libssh2 installed, also I tried loading nexuiz, I needed libvga.so.1 which is part of libsvga package and libx86, copied my xorg.conf from dpup and installed dri/sdl from squeeze. It ran but video lagged, it didn't freeze as in lupu's xorg though.

Try to install libgl1-mesa-dri, that's something dpup had. That's "Xorg High".

BTW

Code: Select all

# echo $TERM
xterm
xterm is a wrapper script in /usr/bin that uses rxvt so we need symlink to mrxvt-full for terminal to open in rox (right click -> window-> terminal here) same goes for many other apps I guess. also we need to set console icon for pinboard.

Ok, here it is, ffmpeg and xine-lib. MP3, MPEG-4 and x264 (FLV) confirmed to work on my machine.

I had to add some extra libraries to get better multimedia support ... they're in 003. I think it's libx264, speex and libvpx. I'll do a test build of 003 tommorow probably, with these plus all improvements since 002.

If libssh2 fixed the Seamonkey segfaults problem I think we're fine ... but I'd like to try to compile Seamonkey with just the browser and mail.

I installed 001 to a flash drive with boot flash once in 001 I updated the repos in ppm and installed fluxbox and weechat from the debian repos.
I can't get anything to compile, the devx is loaded supposedly.

Uploaded 003, 001 is very very broken, the devx works since 002.

Here's deadbeef, probably the best choice for the music player of 004.

EDIT: more stuff that will be present in 004, dejan is making a super-duper Seamonkey pet. Just found out that Osmo is broken in 003, here's a PET.

Puppy Squeeze 003 Development

I downloaded 003 and installed it to a usb flash drive using bootflash.
I installed the devx and it does compile okay now.
I installed vlc-113-1,dosbox0.74,tunapie,fluxbox,moc,lxterminal,and
htop using the puppy package manager after updating debian repositories.

One big problem is no sound, it doesn't see my
Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High Definition Audio Controller.
Also, vlc has to be run as user spot.

edit: I'm having fun with 001, I installed vlc to it from the ppm and it is working well, with sound too :)

Updated the frugal install on the old P3 test box to Squeeze 003. Sound worked out of the box this time. :)
Back to testing................

Installed 003 adding to xorg.conf

Code: Select all

	Option "TapButton1" "1"
	Option "SpecialScrollAreaRight" "true"
Option "VertEdgeScroll" "true"
Option "VertTwoFingerScroll" "true"
gets touchpad tapping and scrolling working but throughs up another bug - on such as the Tabs View menu button in cosole for the menu to stay open a touchpad button needs to be held down or the menu imediatly closes, same thing from network tray aswell.

edit.
Deadbeef works nice
Transmission requires libevent-1.4 from package manager

cheers.

Report for all 003 Squeeze Agents

Shinobar, Jemimah and others offer a grub boot menu
with options such as pfix = ram on a
scroller) at boot up
- it still autoboots after 5 secs . . .
Is that better? A possibility?

Asked to probe my video resolution - simple enough set up
Auto connected to ethernet - me like
Changed time - default not even close

Prefer grey Lucid icon set used in 002 (small matter)

Chat - straight to IRC chat (using captcha) good
- need msn, yahoo etc - then meeboo available - simples :)

Quite happy to have Squeeze use same browser for help and
connection and that a fully featured browser (out of the box)
- two browsers was not an improvement for me
prefer one

mp3 worked straight out of the box (dragged mp3 into play icon)
- yeah baby!

Fatdog 64 browses as spot and downloads to a download
directory in spot (which you can move)
How easy to implement? Desireable?

Console is more powerful but low contrast defalt colour scheme = not good
Can the colour scheme be changed?

mention from Ttuxxx was made of a wallpaper viewer from HairyWill that displays the image - not suitable? Not implementable? Not there anyway . . .

Good to see gpic - was in dpup - very good program

Chrome-like GTK theme from dpup for dpup fans - me like

Puppy Dpup Squeeze
Puppy + Debian = woof woof
Puppy Raspup 8.2Final 8)

Like the colors and the prospect of smaller build - well done. :)

Can't wait for 004.

Lobster, is the guy Captain Dpup or Captain Squeeze?
