Fresh manual frugal install of Wary 090 (2.6.35.7) on my old P3 test box....733 mhz-256 mb ram w/1gb swap.
On initial boot the sound and internet were working out of the box and no problem setting the screen resolution.
Installed Htop and Firefox (upgraded to 3.6.10 w/ the latest flash).Everything appears to be working fine.

I did a full install of 090 kernel 2.6.30.5.
On first boot the wired internet was connected, wireless keyboard and mouse working.
I installed the nvidia pet from the forum by Gray.

Ogle plays dvds full screen, mplayer plays videos at full screen also.

*******************************************************************************

I did a full install of 090 kernel 2.6.35.7 on another partition.
I installed the devx and the kernal_src-2.6.35.7-patched.sfs and I
downloaded the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-256.53.run driver from the nvidia
site.I then exited to the prompt and did "sh NVIDIA-Linux-256.53.run",
it returned an error at one point "/sbin/depmod -aq invalid option"
but it gave me the option to continue which I did.
Unfortunately the driver didn't install so no accelerated graphics.

Ogle plays dvds but not full screen, mplayer plays videos but not
fullscreen.

So, wary 090 with the 2.6.30.5 kernel + the nvidia.pet is working great but without
accelerated graphics the 2.6.35.7 kernel isn't so hot.

I notice a few things in PPM wont download, I mentioned nvidia on the blog.

I got the nvidia driver but it wouldn't work for me, though the previous 195 series drivers did work for this card in other kernels. (I am using the 2.6.35.7 kernel)

I grabbed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-256.53 from nvidia and compiled it and the card seems to work just fine now.
Code:
# report-video
VIDEO REPORT: Wary Puppy, version 090

Chip description:
oem: NVIDIA
product: G98 Board - 5610002u Chip Rev

Driver used by Xorg:
nvidia

Video mode used by Xorg:
Resolution:  Depth 24  Depth: "Display"

or my video test from quickpet ( Laughing )
Code:
For your nVidia card, nVidia Corporation GeForce 8400 GS (rev a1)
we think the best add on driver is nvidia-173.14.25 or nvidia-256.35. It would be required for some programs and games with high
graphical content and your desktop might seem a bit more snappy.
They are available in Quickpet

Cheers

Here's the nvidia driver for k2.6.35.7 packaged. It's the latest 256.59 from the nvidia site.

Works for me and not bad at 15MB. There are details of what cards it is supposed to support.

Cheers

re: composite extension
lol, just noticed the same thing myself. Smile

paste this in at the bottom of /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "1"
EndSection

just above the #PuppyHardwareProfile=

This works for 431 and other 4 ver puppies as well. But if you already have an extensions section, you can add it there.

AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Nvidia graphics card and an old 15" CRT

Strangely, a .vob video file refused to play while using Xvesa but plays fine with Vesa. Using 1024x768 24-bit color settings on both. Using 2.6.35.7 kernel.

There seems to be a bug with pfix=ram.

I am supposedly running pfix=ram but I had previously made a savefile and copied the main sfs to an ext4 partition.

It seemed to load too fast at the 'copying to ram' stage of bootup and I didn't hear the cd drive. I didn't think much of it because I was testing the video driver, then I realised the blue led was on on sda5, so the live cd detected that the sfs was on the drive and loaded that. Ok, not a big pain for me.. perhaps it's a new feature?

The pupmode is definitely 5, so that suggests I'm running live. See screeny.

Cheers

PostPosted: Sat 09 Oct 2010, 02:34    Post_subject: openoffice-3.1.1-sfs4.sfs crash

When I try to open OpenOffice using openoffice-3.1.1-sfs4.sfs on Wary090_kernel2.6.35.7 Wary freezes when the OO splash screen appears.
The only way out is a dirty shutdown.

Using the later kernel

Yep could not load the ATI drivers
from any depository

Any plans to include a 'generic' quickpet in Wary - Mick01 is working on this
Is easy package installation bling?

Straight to Ethernet connected
Nathan Desktop wallpaper setter still has a tendency to
stick after a few selections

ogv and asf files do not load into media player if you click on them
like mp4 and other files
(they work play OK)

Sound wizard had to be run
the icon bottom right made lack of driver very clear
sound worked OK once correctly set

All seems running OK including new games

All Woof-built puppies use Busybox depmod, which has been a contentious decision.

However, the full depmod is still there, renamed to 'depmod-FULL'.

So, just rename /sbin/depmod to something else, and rename /sbin/depmod-FULL to /sbin/depmod, and the Nvidia installer will be happy.

Hmmm, yes, I could just say it's a new feature. However, when users type in "pfix=ram", that's what they want, not a partition mounted.

Um, assuming that you have 256MB or more of RAM, try this:

pfix=ram,copy

I think that should force the .sfs to copy into a tmpfs in RAM and then the partition will be unmounted.
