Text small in Abiword, scrolling slow in Mozilla.

#1 Post by GrahamO »

I have been trying out Puppy on a 266MHz PII machine with 160MB RAM. There are some peculiarities, particularly with Abiword. Text size is much smaller than expected for the stated point size and zoom level, and scrolling is very slow. I have noticed the same effects on Damn Small Linux. Text sizes and scrolling seem to be affected by the dpi setting (set-xftdpi), but setting a reasonable value for my screen does not cure the problem. Some applications, such as Beaver and Dillo, seem to run as fast or nearly as fast as the Win98 on the other partition, but Abiword and Mozilla are much slower than their counterparts. Any suggestions? Xorg does have a driver for the S3 Virge card I use, and it seems to be selected.
