Thank YOU ! Worked like a charm Smile

I also put some colors on the text. This is the top of my lickgrub.cfg
Code:

## start header
insmod part_gpt
insmod part_msdos
insmod ntfs
set color_normal=green/black
set color_highlight=yellow/black
set timeout=5
set default=0

insmod all_video
if loadfont /unicode.pf2 ; then
  set gfxmode=auto
  set gfxpayload=keep
  terminal_output gfxterm
  insmod png
  background_image /yeah.png
fi

I mirrored the unicode.pf2 file here
Hugs and kisses noryb009 Smile

Oh and if problems editing lickgrub.cfg directly from C: - just copy it somewhere else - edit it - and copy it back/replace.

noryb009 - would you mind if I include LICK in the Fatdog ISO? This will include the installer binary, certain doc files (README and few others), plus link back to github as well as this thread.

jamesbond: For sure, go ahead!

I created this issue, which might be useful in this scenario. Feel free to make other issues, if you think they might be helpful.

Information should be given to Windows users, not only on Linux VIP sites. It's a tool for people with no Puppy Linux yet installed, isn'it ?
Slacko (5.3.3 ?) has yet a version .exe to be installed using Windows.

Hi hamoudoudou,

Thanks for your concern. I don't feel I should be advertising LICK on websites that don't have to do with Puppy Linux at the moment. I feel the main benefit of Linux comes from after it is already installed, so people would not be interested just because they can install it easily. However, I am fine if it is made more visible in Puppy Linux download/installation pages, or included in ISOs, like jamesbond mentioned he might do.

You might be looking at PLIC, the predecessor of LICK. In PLIC, I had to compile an exe file for each version of Puppy, which did not work well when people wanted installers for less popular versions. You can get LICK here.

If you have only one Puppy at home, use Grub4Dos, so easy, or isobooter.
LICK is similar to Lili Live USB creator..

Hello

For some months Lick has been running successfully on my W10 computer giving me access to Puppy on boot. I would like to add Grub4dos to the boot options so I can use the more familiar menu.lst file. The Lick documentation seems to suggest that this is part of the design as it adds grub.exe and gldr file to Lick/res folder as pupl,exe and pupldr for g4d access. However, I can find no information on how to go about using this facility.

I have modified, what I assume is the Grub2 congfig file, lickgrub.cfg in the root directory with the following and created a separate /boot folder with 3 files pupl.exe, pupldr & menu.lst but no success.

menuentry "Grub4dos"{
insmod chain
search --set=root --file /boot/pupl.exe
linux /boot/pupl.exe
}

menuentry "Grub4dos 2"{
search --set=root --file /boot/pupl.exe
chainloader /boot/pupl.exe
}

As I am unfamiliar with the syntax this has been by “trial & error”. Can anyone point me to the correct method to add Grub4dos to the Lick options.

Thanks

newoldie

newoldie:

The tl;dr is that grub4dos does not work on UEFI systems, which you have.

LICK automatically chooses between grub4dos and grub2, depending on your system. Grub2 is only installed on UEFI systems, while grub4dos is installed on the older form, BIOS. Since it appears LICK installed grub2, it looks like you have a UEFI system. Grub4dos does not support UEFI, so you are probably out of luck Sad

Hello noryb009

Thanks. Am a bit out of my depth here. Sounds like I am banging my head against a brick wall trying to get Gru4dos to work on my UEFI system?

So Lick chooses the boot loader depending on BIOS or UEFI and the documentation is refering to when Grub4dos is enabled on a BIOS system.

Thank you, stops me chasing my tail.
