Barry,
The mwave initialization script has had a typo for some time, now, although probably not noticed by users. The attached package contains the corrected tarball for inclusion in the next wary version. In addition, the tarball pinstall script now uses /etc/modprobe.d/modem_mwave.conf instead of the old modprobe.conf. I also simplified the edit of the country code, to use the "sed -i" technique.

BTW, be sure you use the latest version of the modem_update...-2 package, for woof. If you have one of the first three downloads of it, please re-download it to get the cleaned up version. Thanks.

Viewnior doesn't accept filenames with non-english chars as ÆØÅ. Puppy uses Viewnior 0.6 while 1.0 is released. I don't know if this would help us non-english humans. I install gpicview which works perfectly

Geany is still not able to execute a script like it did in the old days. The solution is still simple.
Edit the file: /root/.config/geany.conf

After activating Xlock, I didn't find the way out. Esc, mouse-click, Ctrl+Alt+F1, hammering on my keyboard...... Nothing worked until I pressed power-button for a rough power-off. How is it supposed to work?

I just tested it, works fine.

I clicked 'lock' icon on desktop, got asked for a password twice, then got floating globules on the screen. I moved the mouse and up came a window asking for the password, entered password and got back to desktop.

Regarding nVidia, I presume that you ran the Video Upgrade Wizard and it reported that there is no commercial PET package available for your card? But, you did find a suitable one in PPM?

Barry, the problem with xorgwizard’s text menus below the screen’s edge remains.

Just to clarify, this happens when I update the video driver to Intel or nVidia (two different PCs).

Initially, when booting, there are no problems with the text menus in xorgwizard - they all fit nicely and install the vesa driver (16bit).

It is during installation of either the Intel or nVidia driver that xorgwizard’s text menus extend below the bottom of the screen

Quirky is a t2 build (t2 is a thoroughly tested, nearly-from-scratch distro buildscript) incorporating a newer version of X than Wary uses.

Wary is, if memory serves, a woof build based on its own .pet collection. Not sure whether Barry does X in Wary as a 100% t2 build or not.

Lupu carries the Ubuntu binaries (including X) but not the Ubuntu kernel, and other low-level building-block files critical to Ubuntu binaries may be missing or mismatched as well.

So, it is no surprise if something having to do with video works on Quirky but not on Wary or Lupu.

I myself am using Quirky as my day-to-day production distro. As far as I'm concerned, all non-t2 Puppies are just throwaway experiments, with perhaps fascinating aspects insofar as how they are composed. And amusing spectacles to stand far back from and watch, as bugs get shaken out by the ton.

This will remain true until, someday, technosaurus or ttuuxxx or gposil or jemimah or yours truly or some other exceedingly patient soul with a lot of time on his-or-her hands finally at long last comes up with a Puppy built from square one according to the Linux From Scratch instructions. Then we will crush Microsoft into dust and the forest will echo with laughter .

Wary is also 100% T2 build.

The fact that I have converted the binary tarballs generated by T2 to PET packages changes nothing. I reported on this many times in my blog, for example:

also Barry when I bootup my volume is muted and when I install packages like the ones I just posted the puppy package manager doesn't check for deps, First I installed gimp, but it didn't say I was missing gegl or babl, same with when I installed gegl it didn't mention babl, but I did specify in the pet.specs file.

The correct syntax for entering dependencies is like this:

A comma-separated list, always must have a '+' sign in front of each dependency. The dependency mechanism does not yet support specifying version numbers, so only put the package name(s).

The '+' is important. In future, a '-' prefix will mean a package that must NOT be installed as it conflicts with the package that is to be installed. Some other syntax extensions are also on the to-do list.

However, dependency checking only works when the PETs are in a repository and accessed via the PPM GUI.

If you download a PET such as Gimp and just click on it, there is no dependency checking (yet).

Hmm... same problem than with some lucid versions and latest fatdog versions but worst with wary096.

Ath9k wireless driver and wifi. Connection cuts of frequently, some times lasting only couple of minutes. Even when downloading stuff, it cuts of during downloading.

Wireless works fine and stands for idle for example with several fluppies. Maybe kernel spesific problem with ath9k.

Barry thanks for Wary 096 but sadly it fails to play both .flv and .mp4 on my HDD while both Quirky and Luci and others do play those files from scratch.

Should one activate this in any way. I thought of using wary as my priority but if it fail to play the music video clips that I like then I have to use DPup or somethign that play them.

Quirky has stopped booting so I must have experimented too much.

I read the link on your blog about ext4 filesystem on a flash drive so
I took a 4gb flash drive and used gparted in Fedora 14 (because I read
somewhere on this forum that making an ext4 partition in puppy had a
problem) to create an ext 4 partition on the flash drive and set the
boot flag.Then I used the universal installer to install wary 096 to
the flash drive,then grub4dos to install the bootloader to the flash drive
using the option in grub4dos to confine the search to the flash drive.

I booted the drive and did the usual setup, then selected the reboot
option and chose to save to the entire partition on the flash drive instead of
saving to a file.
It took a *very* long time to save and reboot the computer, over 30
minutes, and then it finally rebooted.I've added a music directory to
the drive since and other stuff, I've done several reboots since and
they happen in less than a minute.There is still 2gb free on the drive.

So after the first reboot and saving to the drive it seems to be
working well.
The computer has all the ram that puppy can see if that makes any
difference and the flash drive is a Kingston Data Traveler 3G which
cost $9.99 OVERPRICED so not expensive but good quality I think.

I just checked, .flv and .mp4 play fine.

If you are using a modern netbook, this is not really what Wary is designed to run on, and you may be using the 'vesa' Xorg driver. Look at the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf to check that.

If using 'vesa', then the 'xv' Mplayer video driver will not work, you must use 'x11' -- right-click for the menu in Mplayer and choose Preferences, then Video tab, then choose 'x11', then restart Mplayer.

Or, if you are only using 'vesa', run the Video Upgrade Wizard (see Setup menu) and install the Intel upgrade PET -- then you can use 'xv' in Mplayer.

I am guessing that this is the problem you are experiencing.

I tried three times and it failed each time so me are on vesa indeed.
But it failed to install. Acer maybe is too different.

I have an Acer netbook with Intel N450 chipset, and the Intel video upgrade PET works fine.

What do you mean by "it failed to install"? A PET is just a PET, it should install, unless there was a problem with downloading it.
