GNU IceCat 17.0.1-i686_en-US

IceCat is essentially a slightly altered (for trademark and licensing reasons) version of the Firefox web browser.
http://www.gnu.org/software/gnuzilla/

Maybe I'm peculiar, but I prefer IceCat over Firefox.

[vicmz reports that IceCat 13.0.1 works with Wary 5.3, provided you install a few other dependencies. To do that, please see the link below concerning additional languages- all the relevant materials are in one place.]

(This package has the American (US) English language pack built-in. If you would like to install another dictionary/language pack, try using the extensions and how-to provided courtesy of vicmz, here. Let me know whether those do or do not work, please.)

Ummmm ... you gave me an idea. It's smaller than Seamonkey (2 MB difference in the case of the Seamonkey by dejan555).

Maybe I could replace Seamonkey with Debian's IceWeasel ... yummy

3.6 to 10.0- How's that for a version jump?

I can't believe I actually forgot about this package and thread...

Language packs for Firefox and IceCat

I'm saving some language packs for Firefox/IceCat here:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/a2n6emd3t3olh0x/Hjy8Bod_ta

This is convenient because not everyone can compile separate versions for their languages, or the person who maintains the packages doesn't have enough time to do so. This is also convenient because at times updates for Puppy Linux aren't done as soon as a new version of the browser is released, and sometimes these langpacks disappear or are blocked for other browsers.

Tested IceCat 13.0.1 on Wary: it won't launch, dependency check attached as screenshot.

NOTE ON FIREFOX/ICECAT LANGUAGE PACKS: To easily activate the installed language pack, install the locale_switcher extension (available in the same folder link I've posted). Then select Tools > Language, choose your language and restart Firefox. Once this is done, you can remove the locale_switcher extension.

I could successfully use your IceCat .pet in Wary 5.3. I have uploaded a how-to text file and the required dependencies along with the langpacks:

UPDATED to version 14.0.1

@vicmz: I've linked your resources in the main post, as well as on my website's IceCat page. I hope that's okay, and thanks for the support and additional work you've put in to this!

UPDATED to version 17.0.1

I'll likely try to optimize and slim down the package more later on, but at least you have a newer release (presumably with fewer vulnerabilities) for now.

Hello TheAsterisk! and everyone!

Here is a sfs of icecat-17.0.1, built from source on the very recent
lucidPuppy-5.2.8.6: http://limelinx.com/d2j82.

yasm and its libraries were used in addition to the Lucid-5.2.8.5 devx to
ensure jpg and web format compatibility. (If anyone is interested in
building mozilla stuff from source, I can provide the yasm builder
as a separate pet.)

I was tempted to build icecat-24, but lucidPup does not have Python 2.7,
which is required to compile this version. So I put that project on hold.

(Your experience with compiling icecat, TheAsterisk! ? I wish to co-
operate, not compete. Are you preparing v. 24?)

This sfs is bigger than TheAsterisk!'s pet, because, as I understand it, I
happened to compile everything including the icecat developers' kit. In
any case, it's a sfs, so you don't need to increase the size of your
pupsave file to use it.

md5 verification code is:
1792654b7ef0d9f5eb05861a61d19562 icecat-17.0.1_528.sfs

glibc used for this compile of icecat is lucidPup's glibc 2.11, which is also
the same as the one in wary-5.5. This means this icecat should be
compatible with the pups mentioned and pups with a higher glibc version,
such as pemasu's wheezyPup and raringPup.

Please let me know, objective constructive feedback will be appreciated.

That's all for now. Enjoy.

Hello, all.

I get a message: "missing css's" or "javascript missing" on certain sites with icecat 17.
(taxtips.ca, actually. Now why on earth whould I need to go to that site... ;) )

In any case: anyone has lights about what's going on? Is icecat crippled?

Thanks in advance.

IceCat version .17 downloaded

IceCat version .17 downloaded. I hope it will reach my Facebook's family.
My version 7 doesn't. I come back
Musher0 give us a link for SFS. IceCAT is searching. Niet. rien. Nothing.
Opera 10.63 should do it.
It's not very important. but it is a challenge for unoccupied people as me.
Angel Linux has IceCat by default. To enter the web, Angel Linux provides four browsers, but four browsers for geeks. It's the first game to win in this pretty distro for gamers.
I come back. 14H00 I am back again.
Pet loaded, but it does not match (Lucid 5.2.8)

Sounds like a symlink is needed like I did for Kazehakase browser to open in Slack0 5.7

I use locate though instead of pfind.
