If you are on dialup and already have downloaded Wary 096, good news as the .delta files are only 6.4MB and 1.3MB. If you have Wary 094, you can download the .delta files to upgrade to 096, then to 098.

The last-minute fixes in the unofficial 097 have been important, and 098 is looking good!

Note, this pup has also been built with most-needed modules inside wary_098.sfs, so most people can throw away the zw098114.sfs file.

Is this really the last beta, or am I being overly optimistic?...
Of course, we don't have to have perfection to consider it release-quality. Some things are going to be on-going long term projects to get right, such as our analog/3G modem setup. So, is this pup close enough to general usability for the next to be an RC?...

Fresh manual frugal install of Wary 098 on my main Linux box.

On initial boot there was working internet (wired dsl) and sound "woof-woof" as well as the correct 1440x900 screen resolution.Everything was persistent after a reboot.

Installed the Firefox 3.6.9 pet,rebooted and working fine.

The only little glitch is .....the Video Upgrade Wizard doesn't download the drivers and pops up a message the pet didn't install.Guess I'll just go to the repo...

If you haven't rebooted, or boot again pfix=ram, try the video-upgrade again and post the contents of /tmp/petupgradevideo.sh.

At the top it should have "PET=$1". There is another file, /tmp/vuw_nvidia_pkg which I think has the driver name.. check that.

I'll test in a mo

Ok, back and the nvidia driver is downloading fine for me.. unfortunately it will probably crash for me but that's ok, I have backup

Yes installs just fine, I know that because I get nvidia entry in the menu, but the driver crashes the system for me so I use the 260.* driver I posted in the drivers section.

I'll boot up the Nvidia box pfix=ram in just a few minutes.

I'm running 098 from a 4gb flash drive.
I have sound but retrovol is still x'ed out so I change volume by using
the remote of my speaker system.
I used the ati pet, then exited to the prompt and entered "aticonfig
--initial" then "xwin" to get back to the desktop.Hardware acceleration
is working.
I'm afraid if I run the alsa sound wizard it will wreck the sound
altogether so I'm sticking with things the way they are...changed my
mind and ran it, got woof woof and still have sound but retrovol is
still x'ed out and doesn't work.
But this computer is new and Wary works *very* well on it

Where did the Intel stuff come from?

Another fresh frugal install,this time on the old P3 test box.
Initial boot had sound and the correct 1024x768 screen resolution but no internet.Used SNS to get connection ....everything is persistent through several reboots.
Onboard Intel graphics,sound and nic.

Hmmm, weird James... that message from petget usually happens when there's a corrupt pet... did wget go through the motions at all? (Normally takes a couple of minutes for me, though I rarely get ibiblio any faster than 100k/s)

I grabbed the same pet when I debugged the vid-wiz last night in 097 on my old p3 with nvidia vanta card, it worked perfectly.

First boot, nv or vesa i am not sure, got 1200x1048x24.
Installed nvidia-265 driver from the Video Upgrade Wizard.
Down to console, xorgwizard, chose nvidia, select 1200x1048x24, test.
After 'Test now', the PC freezes with black screen.

I don't believe that wget did anything.Click the first button to download the pet and just a second or two later the install dialog pops up....no where near long enough to download the pet.

Downloaded the pet with the PPM and its working fine....GeForce 2 mx400.

Small issue:

Frugal install on sda3/wary. Boot up without pupsave.
At shutdown, offered to make pupsave.
The dialog appears to choose the partition, sda1 as the default whereas boot off from sda3.

I remember old woof did not show the dialog of partition choice in case booted off from some frugal installed partition.

James.. I don't think that driver supports your card anyway, so maybe it was supposed to fail?

Well, it installed and it works.......pretty fair numbers for "glxgears".

NVIDIA Geforce 8800GTX.

BTW, the secondlife viewer(1 nor 2) fails.
I have failed every version of Wary and Qirky.
Lucid is OK, Puppy-4.3.1(JPqs3) is OK.
I am not sure what library is missing or mismatching.

Did you use the Video Upgrade Wizard to install the ATI PET? If so, it runs 'aticonfig --initial' after it installs, so you shouldn't have had to do that.

Something is wrong that I can't pinpoint to do with my acx device and ndiswrapper.

Yesterday in my sneaky testing on my P3 the thing just connected with no fuss.

Today in 098 it just refuses to connect, I even tried tempestuous' command line method. In Sns and network wizard I get no results in the scan. Usually there is about 7 or 8 access ponts detected by that card. I plugged in my usb tp-link dongle (rt73 device) and it connected with no fuss, albeit slowly (it's a distance thing, that's why I prefer the acx with an external antenna.)

As a sanity check I booted back into my sneaky installation and it was straight online with the acx device. So it's weird.. sns doesn't get far enough to catch a log, guess I'll try dmesg or something to look for clues, or look in the kernel log.

Anything change from yesterday that you can put your finger on?

It seems that there is something wrong with the 256 nVidia PET -- 01micko also got a black screen. He has created a 260* PET, which is a more recent version that should support all the same cards, that works for him, so I will switch over to that.
