Links-hacked lightweight console/GUI web browser Subject description: Compiled on Lucid with ssl & javascript--see below for source and pet |
|
Well, I felt like seeing if I could get a light, javascript-enabled browser running.
I tried links-hacked, and eventually got it to build & run.
Traps:
1. Get the fonts beforehand, or have a working internet connection.
2. If it complains about a label at the end of a complex statement, go to that line and insert a new line containing only:
;
3. Configure with X and with graphics enabled. It will not pick them up otherwise.
Right now I'm trying to post from links-hacked.
Edit: SSL, javascript, and graphics are enabled. However, it may not handle redirects perfectly. Don't expect all logins to work; the forum does, but not WebCT.
The source I packaged has the changes needed to compile; it also includes the fonts.

OK, see
http://cid-f785bf5e55218c8e.office.live.com/browse.aspx/.Public/puppy?uc=2
for a pet (links-hacked.pet) and source archive WITH FONTS INCLUDED (links-hacked-all.tar.bz2). The pet is over 3MB, the source is over 7MB.
I've included configuration files, so CUPS is bookmarked, background is white (ffffff), javascript is enabled, google is set as home, etc.
glinks is a shell script I wrote that should start in framebuffer or X; I've only tried X. It relies on $DISPLAY not being empty when X is working.
