Ah yes, HardInfo doesn't do sound chips. Someone reported a CLI but I never remember those. Quickest and most certain is to open the box + torch + watchmakers eye-magnifier; don't necessarily even trust the book or website as they often fit chips from a range of stock. Great thing about opening the box is that it gives you the option of doubling the lifetime by judicious use of the vacuum cleaner.

Easier and less destructive is to use an older OS that works.

Someone pointed me to some of Barry's statements about support for Quirky....kinda sums it all up.

But...1.2 seems to work fine.

Not so. Only someone from transatlatica could possibly conceive that sliding the side/lid is 'destructive'. A healthy PC requires a Spring clean at least twice a year even if you're not swapping stuff more often. My most heavily used boards don't even live in a box.

Can I copy files from 1.2 that do work, or can someone tell me how to identify the chip so that I can request specific help in this thread?
This topic should help you.

Quirky 1.4 is missing the link "/usr/lib/libgee.so.0".

Thanks for your small minded and insulting response.

Ok, I have put in that symlink. Also set the libgee template in Woof to always create that symlink. It must be needed for apps compiled against an older version of libgee.

Note, it is not always a good idea to just put in a symlink, better to install the old libgee pkg, as there may have been api changes. Anyway, if your app works with the symlink, good.

Thanks, they are genie apps compiled on puppy 4.3.1, (still my main puppy). I must recompile them sometime.

PS: I hope you release that other version of Quirky 1.4 that would be a real successor to Quirky 1.3.

How about this, Wary 5.0 can now "do" Quirky 1.3:

...needs testing though.

Hmmm, it will probably work in Quirky 1.4 also.

where are the kernel src .sfs for quirky 1.1~1.4?Seems that it's missing...

But how can I compile my own HW drivers for my quirky box if there is such a need?

Go to bkhome.org/sources. The login is puppy:linux. Quirky uses the 2.6.33.2 kernel.

Quirky 1.5

#121 Post by Billtoo »

I installed quirky to a 4 gb flash drive.
On first boot a popup screen came up saying the mouse pointer hadn't
moved, I use a wireless keyboard and mouse with this netbook and it
is working fine.
The screen resolution is set to 800x600, it should be 1024x600.
Sound works, I set the levels with alsamixer.
Wireless network is working, I have a linksys usb wireless adapter
plugged in and it uses the rt73 usb driver.

Almost good

#122 Post by peebee »

Hi Barry

Tried the BABY version frugal install on my HP550 laptop - booted fine, only problem is that the new quirky only uses part of my screen - it should be 1280*800 but looks 1024 wide as there are big black bars down each side. The display that is showing is fine. I tried going out to the prompt and run xorgwizard which did probe as expected and found my 1280*800 screen but on return to xwin the truncated screen was still shown.

Wifi connection via SNS was OK but disconnected after a short time (a regular problem with some puppies) and I'm posting from Seamonkey now (but had 2 prompts to download flashplayer so far.

Cheers
Peter

Re this thing "Wifi connection via SNS was OK but disconnected after a short time (a regular problem with some puppies) "

Did they not joke about it in teh Lupu 525 thread that it had a Stay connected button that pinged the relevant thing often enough to allow it to stay connected. I am not on that level so I failed to get what they talk about but me being on LAN was not affected and I did see the stay connected once and then never found it again so do a search and maybe you find it? Some stay connected pet???
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Hi,

Just to report that Vesa not works on my VIA EPIA M board. I had use Xorg vesa and work only with Xorg version 7.3 1.3.0 or a new one 1.9.5 .
