Sound not working? Subject description: Maybe it is and you just don't know it... |
|
Took me forever to figure this out... sorry if it's a re-post.
Method #1: Alsamixer
Run #alsamixer in console
A graphical-ish program comes up...
Left & Right arrows - Select the sound channel (Master, PCM, etc)
Up & Down arrows - change volume of that channel
M - Mute/Unmute that channel (Muted channels will have an 'M' at the base of the volume slider.
Esc - Exit (changes are saved)
Method #2: Retrovol (Activate Sliders)
Right click sound icon in tray
Select "Config Window"
"Retrovol - Configuration" window will show...
Select "Hardware" tab
Make sure "Master Playback Volume" is shown under "Active Sliders" (if not, select it from "Inactive Sliders" and click the left arrow button).
Click Apply
Method #3: Retrovol (the hidden checkbox)
Right click sound icon in tray
Select "Full Window"
Check/Uncheck the "Master" box

Benjo, try running alsaconf and select your sound card, then play with the appropriate settings.
If you are still having issues, it could be likely.

In my case, running retrovol solved the problem, because alsaconf already detected my soundcard

maybe alsa daemon is not running, try :
/etc/init.d/alsa restart (or start)
or maybe alsa-utils is not installed.

USB headset |
|
I am not so lucky. I have a Nexxtech USB headset attached to an HP computer with Puppy 5.2. I have tried everything I have seen here and in other threads to get the audio working, but nothing has worked. I was able to get sound from the onboard speakers. It has an Intel chipset. When I run the ALSA configurator, the test suound does not play. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
