I have great results with my Vodafone and Telstra 3G modems, and keen to get feedback from any of you guys who also have 3G modems.

In way it is a bit weird that I am using Wary to test this 3G modem work, considering that Wary targets older hardware and has an older kernel (2.6.31.14).
Yeah, but why shouldn't you be able to plug a 3G modem into your old PC and have it work? I would like recent peripherals such as modems, cameras, scanners and printers to work on old computers, so it is not really in opposition to the Wary agenda.

Anyway, feedback welcome!

Just installed 1,0.2 to usb stick. I find I have no sound and no volume icon in tray. I,ve had this problem since wary 9.2 despite having installed retrovol.pet suggested for earlier versions. When I try to configure alsasound I get an error message. Would love to have a solution to this problem-irishrm

Update on sound problem: My usb install was an update of an existing save file. Just did a pfix=ram boot and I have perfect sound so the problem is with the save file. Looking forward to exploring wary another great OS-irishrm

I hope you are aware that the 'pmedia=cd' does not search the main sfs from usb devices.
Therefore UNetBootin installation on usb devices fails.

Peasyscan 1.3.1 is installed, but doesn't show in the menus. If I change the category in the desktop file to X-GraphicUtility, it appears.

For some reason, if I install the original PET where the category is just Graphic, it also appears in the menu.

This bug has been reported before.

Suppose I have a frugal install of Wary in a hard drive partition. I then boot off the Live CD using "pfix=ram" because I want to run Gparted. Wary still searches for the sfs file on the hard drive and loads it instead of the copy on the CD. If I have enough memory to load the sfs, the hard drive partition is then unmounted and I can modify it with Gparted. However, on a low memory machine, the sfs file is left mounted and the partition is locked. So I can't change it.

[Edit] This problem is particularly significant in recent Quirkies, where the default boot option is "nocopy".

I'm running 1.02 live.
On first boot sound and wired network are working.
I ran the Video Upgrade Wizard and it advised downloading the nvidia
driver, I did that and it's working:

Rebooting now to create save file.

After rebooting the wired network and sound are still working.

It's working good on this 3 year old Acer desktop so that's where I'll use it.

When ROX-Filer click a media file that have space in file name, mplayer could not play the media file.
To fix it, need add two " to the line 20 of the /usr/bin/mplayershell, like this:
OLD: NEW: Remark : The mplayershell is in the mplayer_gui-20100923-w5.pet

Excellent - everything working this time on new and old kit!

I checked that the 8139cp:8139too already add in the PREFLIST of the /etc/rc.d/MODULESCONFIG, thank very much!
But the 8139too module still not loaded automatically, instead of this, the 8139cp module loaded. This was happen in first boot and the next boot(have a save file).
If I manual "rmmod 8139cp" and "modprobe 8139too", the network could connect OK. Best regards,

Wary 102 live pfix=ram on my main Linux box. Working sound and correct resolution on boot. Still not detecting my wired dsl interface. Use Network Wizard and load 8139too gets the connection working.

Otherwise appears to be working well.

I made a pet of mrxvt-054 terminal emulator, it has tabs and transparency and
other options available in the mrxvt menus.

The font size is also a little larger than rxvt.
It creates an entry of the Utility section of the puppy menu.

Tested in Wary 102

Went ahead and did a manual frugal install on the main box. Same network problem on initial boot but once configured everything has survived several reboots.

I tested Wary on three machines.

Fast box
Nvidia nforce chipset, AMD X2 processor (around 3GHz dual cpu), Nvidia 8400GS, 2gig RAM.
My wireless rt73usb device was not recognised after boot. Easy fix, loaded it with Dougal's Network Wizard and straight online. Not much testing on this box as it is not Wary's target. Oh, got the 2 barks at a nice volume (normally on this machine it would be muted at pristine boot).

Intermediate box
AthlonXP 2100+ processor (around 1600MHz), SiS chipset, AC97 sound, Radeon 9200 pro grahics, 768M RAM.
Booted and got the 2 barks. Modem was plugged before boot, 3G Huawei e169. No problems to connect and straight online. Did the video upgrade and was suggested to get the Dri package, installed no problem and glxgears ran no problem at around 3500 farmes per 5 seconds, pretty much the same as Lupu. Did a frugal install with Universal installer to sda10 and manually edited menu.lst, I already have grub4dos installed. One thing though, I had to find the file in /tmp/NEWGRUBTEXT manually as it didn't pop up in nicoedit for me. When I did the save at shutdown it didn't offer to put it in the dir where the frugal was made. Would be nice if it did.
Basically went pretty good. I believe this is a Wary target as this machine I built about 7 years ago. It used to run Mandrake and XP but is now 100% Puppy.

Old Box
Pentim III Coppermine @ 600MHz, 256M RAM, nvidia Vanta graphics, acx pci wireless device, SB-Vibralux 16 sound (a really nice sound card ).
Booted no problem, can't report on 2 barks at boot as SB needs configuration with alsawizard which always goes flawlessly.
No network cards recognised at all. I have that troublesome realtek 8139too too! So I ran ndiswrapper for the acx (using SNS). Worked beautifully! Straight online! Rebooted and everything saved and worked fine after reboot. Tried to upgrade the video with the wizard but my connection was too slow and I was getting impatient! (Was late at night). The connection was slow due to my machine is in my shed which is 10 metres from the house and at least another 5 m to the router through a couple of walls and it was raining heavily. Signal strength was down a good 50%. I had the 3G modem handy so decided to hotplug it in the P III. It took about 45 seconds before the splash went away. That's okay, keyed in my settings and straight online. Did the video upgrade in a matter of moments and glxgears returned about 1000f/5s. Not bad for an oldie.

Wary 102 just won a major prize! The first distro ever (and I've tried/used lots) to not have a driver for eth0, which is a Realtek 8139/8139C/8139C+. Anyway, I loaded 8139too, and off we went, using it now. Same vintage machine as the post above- Intel Coppermine 600MHz.
