Congratulations! Download took approx. 15 min, about 65KBPS. Burn went smooth, rebooting...........

Edit: Posting now from Puppy 1.0.8!
The boot process finished succefully with no trouble, ALSA and X.org (+Xkb!) work great, Blinky blinks awesome. This release just rocks!

Edit2: My mistake! Xkb doesn't work for me! I'm not sure why, but it just doesn't work Crying or Very sad
I followed my instructions and got Xkb again, but the default isn't working Sad

In /etc/X11/xorg.conf, what is in this line:
Option "XkbLayout" "xx"
in place of that xx?

Can you give me some pointers how your keyboard differs from standard us
layout?

I didn't expect my cutdown xkb to be perfect, and it won't be fixed overnight.
But at least we will be able to apply a "service patch" without bringing out
a new iso file.

You probably didn't include some necessary files.
My keyboard looks something like this:
http://www.geocities.com/frisbeepics/HebrewKeyboard.JPG

These are my x.org configuration for it:
Code:
Section "InputDevice"
   Identifier  "Keyboard0"
   Driver      "kbd"
   Option "XkbRules"   "xorg"
   Option "XkbModel"   "pc105"
   Option "XkbLayout"   "us,il"
   Option "XkbOptions"   "grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll,caps:shift,altwin:menu"
EndSection

Meaning alt+shift switches between keylayouts: the default-"us" and "il".
You can check Xkb yourself with the above configuration, if after pressing alt+shift the scroll-lock led lights up, it works!

However (sorry) . . .
Help does not work (dillo loads and then closes)
the files are all here
/usr/share/doc/index.html

update:
Ahhhhhh . . .
the first time you wish to run chat (GAIM)
run it from the menu
then you can set your nickname and it will be set up
- this also needs to work in the same way from
clicking on the chat icon . . .

Have updated wiki and wiki news page
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/DownloadLatest

The help from the start menu doesn't work, from the desktop it does. It has something to do with the LD_PRELOAD:
Code:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libgdkxft.so dillo /usr/share/doc/index.html

What is it there for? /usr/sbin/puppyhelp does not mention LD_PRELOAD, and "dillo file:///usr/share/doc/index.html" works OK.
The output:
Code:
# LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libgdkxft.so dillo /usr/share/doc/index.html
new_gtk_browser
        menu bar
        tool bar
        location bar
        status bar
open_uri_cb file:///usr/share/doc/index.html
load_started_cb

(dillo:22705): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_hash_table_lookup_extended: assertion `hash_table != NULL' failed

(dillo:22705): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_hash_table_insert: assertion `hash_table != NULL' failed

Hi, just downloaded 1.0.8 and booted it within qemu.

Works! (Just the usual problems with qemu+jwm).
usr_devx.sfs from 1.0.7 seams to work also.
webenv-0.4.pup also works.

And I like to new background Very Happy Laughing

Torrents of 108 and 108 multisession are ready Very Happy (those registered at tlm-project.org and linuxtracker can upload them there too).

Everyone have fun with this new pup! Smile

Just test drive 1.0.8 on real PC

* Celeron 2000MHz
* 256MB Ram
* 80GB HDA1 NTFS-WinXP Prof.!
* Geforce MX
* CMI AC97 Sound
* RTL 8139 Lan

Put pup001 in c:

Results:
* Sound detected and working
* Xorg working in 1280x1024x24
* Lan+dhcp+Internet working
- Xkb (de) seams NOT to work...
- Background is just white..? Image does not scale to 1280x1024...?

Just great!! Excellent work!

Hi,

PC 1
PC III 650
128MB Ram
15GB HDD - NTFS
3COM 3C590 LAN
ATI Rage Pro

Works just great, with sound, lan and 1280x1024 using Xorg!

PC 2
Athlon 1000MHz
256MB Ram
14GB HDD
RTL 8139 Lan
S3 Virge

Works great, sound+lan fine. Desktop with 1280x1024 a bit flaky.. may need
to go down a bit with Xorg..

PS

1.0.8 is not using Dillo.
Anyone else got a problem?
Check that dillo is a link to gtkmoz:
Code:
ln -s  gtkmoz  /usr/local/bin/dillo

...also, is gtkmoz there?

Right now I'm running a puppy2 variant, so can't check.

Ah ha, a bug!
You need to get rid of that "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libgdkxft.so" from
that line in /root/.jwmrc
-- that gives font antialiasing for the REAL Dillo, but I forgot to take it out
as 1.0.8 is using the Mozillabased gtkmoz. (dillo is just a symlink to
gtkmoz).
