Any time frame on a windows 98 version of Puppy 1.0.8, or is there a way I could change it manually to 1.0.8 from 1.0.7?

 First time online with Puppy(just now) or any Linux for that matter. Reporting new Ver.1.0.8 running xorg at 1200x768x24, A Lan wizard installed additional driver and this is exciting :!: I also cleared a 5gb partion on hd0 so no longer without cd or flashdrive only. I will report with any useful details of my laptop hardware config. Thanks Puppy
If I knew grandkids were so much fun I would have had them first.
Wow, more grandkids since last here, gifts

I loaded the v1.0.8 & v1.0.8-multisession to puppyfiles.us this morning before work. I made a few quick updates to the wiki then, but I'm just getting around to updating the forum:

I'm glad somebody likes that. I couldn't wait to get rid of it.

Seems to be working though.

I also added the basefiles (extracted from the iso), and the patch for XP.
So you should be able to install it with the XP-installer, if you enter 1.0.8r1 as version to install (but I did not test it yet).

If the server reaches 20 Gigabyte/day traffic, I will deactivate the ISOs temporarily.

I noticed this also (first thing I tested!). A fix to the chat script called from the icon is trivial, but of little value as a patch or dotpup... it only really matters for newcomers who will have only their freshly-burned CD-R.

Maybe we should wait a week and then release Puppy 1.0.8a that has most or all of these minor bugs squashed? The lack of "release candidate" ISOs for Puppy seems to almost guarantee that every new release will include a few new buglets that are straightforward to find and fix.

After the problems I had with puppy2 (xwindows not starting on the second reboot after ALSA loads). I was a little woried about ALSA in 108. But everything worked without a hitch! THANKS I was happy to see the 2.4.31 kernel too, don't have to recompile all the drivers.

Thanks for the base files, Mark.

I can add some more pages to my LinNWinNewB project instructions again now.

I must admit I have mixed feelings about 1.0.8 at the moment. X is definitely slower than 1.0.7, with the same resolution and color depth, on my Pentium 2, 350 MHz desktop. Probably will not be noticeable on newer machines. I have also had screen displays going weird when I try to overlay different windows. But I cannot repeat this at the moment to declare a bug.

Yes, Brain fart. If you upgrade the kernel for puppy2 I hope it's to 2.6.x. Or is the 2.6 kernel too fat?
