Recode, v. 3.6-17 -- Powerful character set utility

#1 Post by musher0 »

Hello!

Here is an absolute must if you have to fish out some
*.txt texts you have written in DOS or in Windows.
Conversely, you might find this package invaluable
if you wish to transport under DOS or Windows any
text you have written in a Linux editor. This complements
the editors included in our dosbox package.

Comes with two very simple scripts which ferry your text
from one system to another. See the small help file in
/root/my-documents/Docs-Linux once your pet archive is
uncompressed.

The transport from linux ascii to dos850 may display
an error message telling you about some ambiguity.
That's nothing to worry about: a linux program can't
properly read a dos text file, so it thinks it's "ambiguous".
But when you'll open your recoded text in a dos or win
editor, the file will be "perfect" (for that system).

recode offers a great many conversions between
character sets. If the conversion from / to dos850 is not
convenient for you, you can modifiy the scripts so they
correspond to the character set suitable for your country
or language. It's easy: find your characgter set and
simply substitute the 'pc' or '850' in the scripts with
the abbreviation for your character set.

If you have any questions, I am here! :) I am not a great
expert, but I'll do my best to direct you towards an answer.

Happy Holidays to all !
