Lucid Puppy 5.2 Official Release JAN 5 2011
516
in order of happening:
Messages about "sns at bootup" and "sns icon on desktop" when frugal installing, but nothing actually there, maybe they need to be reworded to match what is actually there or further explanation of what is meant.
sfs of dev installed ok via qpet, but it was somewhat slow, even for a sat link.
JWM Config Manager > Tray Management > Tried to change the tray autohide to yes, got error box "change reversed" New Config Corrupt, Keeping Origonal. Same with trying to change.
Internet fonts are rather "rough"
otherwise not bad at all , especially considering this was the box that has given all the problems in the past to puppy versions. 9 points out of 10
regards
scsijon
ps eudora (lucid version) works
update:
just found I had to reboot computer rather than just restarting X after installing the Xorg high pet, nothing changed until then. Also had to obconfig and cancel in openbox to get the menu bar to have anything other than the menu start icon.
you've lost half a point.
I shall keep playing...

Re: Lupu-516 Beta 2 released DEC 22
Hi yarddog, yarddog wrote:followed steps above and it works
why is it necessary to run fbpanel refresh before making changes to clock format?
user needs to be aware of this additional step to make it work
I did not have problem with 1.2 in luci-246 - for me it first appeared in lupu 515
regards
yarddog
There was a slight problem in the initial configuration of fbpanel in Lupu-515 Beta, which required a reset by running fbpanel refresh before the first launch of the native PupClockset-1.2.
However, after installing PupClockset-1.2 in the new Lupu-516, the preliminary step of running fbpanel refresh before the first launch of PupClockset should not be necessary since the configuration parameters have been corrected in this release of Lupu, and fbpanel refresh is actually part of the pet install process. If we assume 'fbpanel refresh' ran successfully on your system when installing PupClockset-1.2, then I'm not sure why changing the clock format failed for you the first time. But the following points may be helpful.
Make sure the fields (entry boxes) in the 'Fbp Font' tab have valid input. Empty fields (or non-valid input) can result in failure of the clock display. Running a second (concurrent) instance of PupClockset can lead to empty fields in the 'Fbp Font' tab of the second instance. If you then set the clock from the second instance of PupClockset, the time display can fail.
Thanks again for your report.
Ha!
Wanna better system for your MacBook*TM.. then look no further!
Ihad all sorts of probs trying to setup mobile internet on wifey's macbook, so why not use Puppy as a DVD install? Of course the kernel does not support the HDD filesystem, that would require some hacking or special configuration I guess. (And is probably illegal )
Installed firefox and the nvidia 260 driver.

The release version is coming to PPM soon.eudora (lucid version) works Cool
It's there now in the PPM. Remember, you can Quickpet -> More Pets -> Update Lupu PPM to update the index of the puppy-lucid repo without waiting a long time for the Ubuntu repos. Download from ibiblio at first.
That Eudora Open Source Edition version 1.0.

Congratulations on Beta 2
Ethernet (after initial auto) was not persistent
so pressed connect
. . . just in time to see these great pics of Barry
and his gorgeous daughter
http://bkhome.org/bkauler/melbourne-dec-2010.htm
Barry is also releasing an under 100MB Wary beta
for those so inclined - it really must be Christmas
http://bkhome.org/blog/?viewDetailed=02046
. . . back to Lupu aka Luci aka LUCID
Great to see a simple wallpaper with white/black icon fonts
(viewable on all wallpaper)
Sound was loud and clear and persistent for me with my two
audio cards
I have gone straight to Crystal ATI graphics (to test)
but I was much happier with the High org driver
when viewing youtube in the previous beta
Thanks guys

Just Some Thought
Had a problem (since version 511) getting my wife's favorite FM radio station to play online... Was using Chrome Browser version-7, tried a few others throughout the Beta versions of Puppy... No Luck. Just happened to install Iron Version-6 and guess what... "It Plays Like A Charm!" In fact it's the only browser that works with this station... I'm thinking... could maybe some of the little problems a few are having with Puppy be due to a simple thing like the "browser" or maybe even a certain "program" they have installed??? I know awhile back I installed BibleTime and it just would not let PupTelly function at all... removed it, no problem with the PupTelly!!! Now... If you get Iron version-7 from the new Pup News area, forget it... IT WON'T WORK PERIOD!!! You need the "Iron version-6".
Just maybe some food for thought!
One last thing..."Quirky-1.4 (latest version" When I first installed it, everything worked perfect. A few reboots during the past few weeks, worked perfect... Tonight just for fun booted it up... "MUTE on the system volume" and I never could get it to work. Seems like BK has the same problem as a few are having with the 5.2 betas, problem gotta be a carry-over I would say?
Just downloaded 516.. If it's any where near 515... "you guys (and gals) have a real winner here!!!!! "Thank you for all your time(s) and efforts all, Wow what a "Super Team."

For what it's worth, Iron 7 will not run on my main box here. Just tried it again......... but it runs fine on the P4 test box. Go figure....playdayz wrote:.Now... If you get Iron version-7 from the new Pup News area, forget it.
Iron version 7 works fine for me. Do you mean that a specific feature does not work or the radio station does not work?

Seamonkey 2.1 beta 1
It is also in PPM

Iron 7. Weird. It must be the cpu. It runs on my AMD phenom. It runs on your P4. What is in the main box? I associate 'illegal instruction' with unsupported cpu.
I checked and srware.net only has one version of Iron 7.

Purely for testing purposes, I upgraded the frugal install on the P4 test box from 515 to 516.Everything looks good.
Posting from Iron 7 too.

Usual thing, goes to about 20 minutes, video starts loading and then it just starts jumping frames, no sound . . .Lobster, You might give Catalyst drivers another try with Lupu-516. I have the same thing and I noticed that when it went to full-screen it does go white first. There is something (directfb) a bit different about 516 that *might* effect this so I think it would be worth a try. Thanks.
Just downloaded Secondlife new version, which is a gzip file.
Just click to create a directory and then run the secondlife script.
This makes great use of the ATI catalyst driver.
Transmission pet working OK
wbar pet OK (both from PPM)
.ASF files play OK in mplayer but you have to drag them into 'play'
icon. Other media files autoplay when you click on them. Can .ASF be added to the list of files played by mplayer automatically?
Now to play Gridwars2 my favourite game at the moment
Not sure that will work on all machines - it is in the games thread about extra software

Playdayz,
I've updated Psync to version 1.4 in the System section.
Yet again the time server text has changed slightly. This causes the report for Offset to have the seconds value missing.
I've tried to simply trap a future change by reporting two fields, one is currently empty. They keep swapping between both.
