MultiPup CD/DVD/USB Creator

#1 Post by puppyluvr »

:D Hello,
###Update: Smokie01 and Catdude have added the option to install MultiPup to USB.
See page 19 for details on MultiPup 6.0..
## Update: Smokie01 and Catdude have the most recent updates of MultiPup with many improvements relating to newer Puppies: Direct links here:
MultiPup for Fatdog:
http://www.smokey01.com/software/Fatdog ... 64-4.2.pet
MultiPup 5.0:
http://www.smokey01.com/software/Fatdog ... up-5.0.pet

From 1 to ??? Puppies, on 1 CD/DVD/USB...

@From the included readme...
Instructions for use:
Only for ext2/ext3 filesystems...
D/L and unpack anywhere on your hard drive,
## outside of your pupsave ##
and where you have twice the size of your intended ISO free..
IE..for a 700mb ISO you will need 1.4bg j space..

After you have unpacked MultiPup, click on it
to open the MultiPup GUI...
If you try to run MultiPup from a non ext2/ext3 filesystem, (ie ntfs/fat)
a warning message will alert you and MultiPup will stop..

When you click the MultiPup icon, a GUI will open, with 6 buttons..

The first 3 buttons each open a directory for you to symlink ISO`s / Pets / SFS files into..
# Currently only series 3 or above Puppies are supported.. See below.#
Symlink your ISOs, Pets, and SFS files and then click "OK"
Absolute "hard" linking only...

The 4th button opens the Bootsplash Chooser..
Choose a splash image and click "OK"
On first run, there is no default splash image, so you must choose one...

The 5th button lets you check your current ISO size..
Be sure that for a CD, your ISO`s and files do not total > 700mb
For DVD`s it is < 4gb I believe...

After you have symlinked your Puppies into /isos,
the 6th and last button will Create your ISO image,
and create a custom grub menu for each Puppy...

On the second tab are 4 buttons: Readme, Reset, Install and View..
Readme opens this file..
Reset returns MultiPup to its original state..

Install creates a pet customized for wherever you put MultiPup..
It makes a menu entry under Utility, desktop file, a script in /usr/local/bin, and registers with the Package Manager..
If you move MultiPup, you must uninstall the pet and re-run the Install program from the new location,
and then install the newly created pet..
As long as the MultiPup directory isnt moved, the same pet will "install" MultiPup on multiple Puppy installs. "Reset" does not delete the Pet..

The View button opens the MultiPup directory.

Wait for the "Your ISO is Created in dvdsource" message..
A rox window will open showing your ISO.
You will then be prompted to enter a name for your ISO in the box and click OK
After you name your ISO, an index file will be created in dvdsource along with yourr ISO, and on the CD/DVD as well..
After moving your ISO out of /dvdsource, click "OK"

Click "reset" in the GUI to delete /dvdsource and /files from the MultiPup directory,
and the symlinks from isos, pets, and sfs..
You are all reset to do another...

@ This readme is included in the GUI @

Created by "Puppyluvr" and "CatDude".....
Feedback appreciated........

MultiPup 2.3 for all (1-5) series available for testing on page 6 of this thread..

MultiPup 3.1 for including "Alien" distros is available for testing on page 8 of this thread..

Multipup-3.3.pet available for testing on page 10....
ver 3.4 pet here soon...

Could you do the same for USB mem sticks too?

I know I can use Grub4DOSconfig that way too but for those that get used to this CD creator maybe they want to use it for USB too?

I don't have CD or DVD on the small 10" Netbook and maybe others have same problem.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

Hi puppyluvr,

Worked superbly. A smart 5 star package. Thank you.

I made a DVD+RW from your combination ISO and then tried my chosen four individual Puppies with success.

My regards

:D Hello,
@nooby,
I`m looking at that as well, gotta let my brain heal first... :D
This script does most of the work for that as well, shouldnt have to change much...Looking at using syslinux though...
l am hesitant to make a script that auto partitions anything, lots of testing before I`ll post anything in that area...

@Sir Jasper,
Thank you and thanks for the feedback...This is something I`ve wanted to do for a while...Glad to hear it is working for you...

Feedback greatly appreciated....

:D ello,
Progress....
By tonight I hope to release ver 2...
@changelog....
ver 2 detects how many isos you chose and automatically reconfigures itself to match...
From 2 to ??? you will no longer be restricted to a fixed number..(currently 4)
Got it working....
Just got a bit of scripting left for the "master" grub menu...

I`ll be back....

Just downloaded your MultiPup Creator, it took longer to rear the readme than to create the cd. :) Really simple and quick.. And no editing.
Looking forward to the updated version.Great job.

Multiple Puppies on one cd/dvd-rw!

#9 Post by Lookinglass360 »

Good Day All

puppyluvr: Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, got a touch of the flu.
Did I say touch? Was more like the full swing of a sledgehammer!
Feeling better today!
Multipup is looking really good, though I have not yet tried MultiPup2
It is my intention to test it out on a dell 3.0ghz 512ram 80gb hd, 3 24gb partitions ext3 "empty" dvd-rw burner.
I'll need to do a frugal and up load the iso's "15" from disks I already have could take awhile.
After this is successful I will try to add a disk load of pets and maybe some sfs's
I will try to include a screen shot with pup-shots of my first attempt witch worked and I used to create the screenshot
It maybe tonight or tomorrow before I have the time.

Keep up the Good Work!

Bob

:D Hello,
Lookinglass36,
Good idea
A lot of users use .sfs files...
For ver 3 I`ll create an .sfs dir. to symlink .sfs files to...
We dont want them in the grub menu, just accessible on the disc...
Maybe one for pets too...
That and the bootsplash chooser will round out ver 3 nicely...
Any other thoughts???

Multiple Puppies on one cd/dvd-rw!

#11 Post by Lookinglass360 »

Hey puppyluvr
Still copying iso's to an empty partition and renaming
No nothing else I can think of just now.
Maybe other small linux ios's?
I think it is pretty great that so many birds can already be taken out with one small stone!
I know my tail is wagging :D
Think I'll just wait for your next ver. to test further.
I' let you know how this go's.

Happy Trails
Bob

MultiPup CD/DVD Creator

#15 Post by Lookinglass360 »

Good Day Everyone!
puppyluvr
Checked out Multipupv3 last night, I found it to be pretty strait forward
and easy to use. Cd-r
I see one clear advantage of having pets and sfs's loaded and ready for use in this way and that is no increase in size of of the booting iso.
I would sure like to see a multi-session aspect added to this, but that may be just a dream.
You can bet this Multi-Pupv3 was one of the pet's I included on my
MultiPup.iso
I'll try to check it out on DVD tonight thing is now I need more puppies!
"Kennel" :D
Love the boot splash choices. Thanks CatDude

Thanks to any and every individual who has helped in even the smallest way!
