I have just added uploaded a copy of Barebones 5.01 to my online storage. Sorry it took so long. I am updating my website, so a link will be available there shortly.

if u dont mind, can u make a barebone lucid 5.2.8? I mean its newer and lucid 5.2.5 lite is a bit older in some sense, and its not as 'barebone' as what u have done.
If u cant, it doesnt matter :D

I have begun work on a bare 528, but it is slow coming. the way that i build it takes a while. i should have it done in about a week.
I thought i had it done a few days ago, but apparently i stripped so much out that it broke and i wasn't able to repair it. So i had to start over.

maybe u could just strip out non-system apps lile abiwords, games, and not gtkhash, something like lucid 525 but without the extra apps like midnight commander

I leave all required programs for puppy to run. I don't believe I removed gtkhash in 5.01. It's just tracking down the files for each app and removing them all that's a little time consuming.

Please don't take out bcrypt, it removes libgcrypt libs which are required for some other encryption programs.

Edit: Will you be adding in the instant update before you strip it?

I don't plan on removing any encryption programs or libs. I probably won't remove the instant update, as it's part of the system files themselves. I'm going to be removing only the non essential files. Instant update is one of the great things about 5.28. Most of the programs removed will be from the bottom 8 menu categories on the start menu. Only a few things on the top menu categories will be touched.

Sounds great, hondasid! Looking forward to seeing a barebones 5.2.8, in due course.
Cheers :)

I'm almost done. Had some RAM issues a few days ago, so I just got back to work on it today. I should have it uploaded before the end of the weekend. I apologize to all those who have been waiting.

You are awsome man. Hoping to use your Barebones for my PupRescue OS to help slim it down a bit.

Hi Hondasid, don't mean to put any pressure on, but Barebones 5.28 may be just what I am after and I was wondering if there is any news.
Many thanks
Tony

Use Caution before installing jwm-508 to Barebones 5.01

#61 Post by mikeslr »

Hi All or Anyone,

Long after its creation, I was exploring Barebones Lucid 5.01 when Barry K developed the jwm-508 pet. This up-grade of the jwm windows manager squashes the conflict between the version of jwm used in Barebones 5.01 and some webbrowsers (Firefox, Seamonkey, perhaps Opera) and perhaps some other highly graphical apps. That conflict is that if you press F11 to have the app appear "Full Screen" without menus and toolbars you are then unable to run that app other than "Full Screen" with jwm as your windows manager. jwm-508 works fine in the Lucid 520 series, and the dpups and spups being developed at the time of this writing.
So I decided to install jwm-508 in Barebones 5.01. Although the pet installed and puppy continued to function, on reboot I was unable to reach desktop. I was able to run the xorgwizard, probe for and select my preferred screen resolution --900x1400x24, as I have a wide-screen monitor, and an Ati Radeon 3100 graphics card-- successfully test at that resolution, but typing "xwin" failed to reach desktop, returning me to the prompt.
I did not attempt to run under Vesa.

If you're seriously interested in using Barebones 5.01, I recommend that you backup your SaveFile before exploring the jwm-508 pet, or other "upgrades" which involve system changes.

snayak I don't know of any barebones Wary, but stu90's Squeeze 5X D-lite (http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=70547) only weighs in at 78mb. I think there may be an option to strip it back a little further, but I can't remember if it has "Remove built-in applications" included. If you'll forgive the addition of Firefox and a network manager, a version of D-lite can be found here from the Simplicity Linux crew at 112 mb http://simplicitylinux.org/ - I'm just about to test them, and I bet sneekylinux will be covering it on his Youtube channel in due course.
