No volume icon on desktop tray for HP Pav 4455

#1 Post by duck1dong »

I have Puppy Version 5.2 on the HP Pav 4455. Windows had no problem with sound on this computer.

There is no icon for volume on the taskbar.

In ALSA (to choose sound card to configure) Following cards on system:

1)Riptide: Rockwell Int'l Riptide PCI Audio controller
2)Legacy: Probe: legacy ISA(non-PnP) chips
3)USB-Audio: Override: USB sound device
4)aoa: Override: Apple onboard Audio

I have read USB Audio is well supported in Linux so I chose that. Nothing. I suspect the taskbar issue is due to a lack of a "driver" or something. In any case, not sure if ALSA is working because I cannot hear volume.

Any advice appreciate on how to fix the no speaker icon issue in advance.

Only choose USB audio if you have a usb sound card plugged in and wish to use it.
The same applies with a Legacy ISA card.
And presumably you don't have a Mac with Apple onboard Audio, since a Riptide PCI card was detected. Choose it.
