After suggesting puppy linux to my windows using friend and his frantic call about "sound drivers don't seem to be installed, should I pop in my motherboad's CD."
I talked with him for good 20 min and came to this age old wisdom quote...

"Always start your answers with the question - Have you plugged and switched ON your device."
"One of my most productive days was throwing away 1000 lines of code."
- Ken Thompson

“We tend to overestimate the effect of a technology in the short run and underestimate the effect in the long run.â€￾

Oh, I came across the classic operating systems allegory:
http://www.webaugur.com/bazaar/53-what- ... lines.html
Once settled, the fully adjustable seat is very comfortable, the plane leaves and arrives on time without a single problem, the in-flight meal is wonderful. You try to tell customers of the other airlines about the great trip, but all they can say is, "You had to do what with the seat?"

Someone told me this on IRC, there's a wallpaper with it but don't know the origin:
Where there is a shell, there is a way.

Some people want spell checkers in their IDEs, but not me. If it were not bad enough to have the chance of breaking code, an experiment with just allowing it in comment sections produce the following diff

Code: Select all

< signal(SIGCHLD, SIG_IGN); // let kernel raep the children,
>signal(SIGCHLD, SIG_IGN); // let colonel rape the children

"Real programmers use cat." (from an interview with Bill Joy, father of the "vi" editor)

As in

$ cat >foo.c
type...type...type...CTRL-D
$ cc foo.c

Can't claim this is "classic", since it's my own invention, but anyway:

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.
