I have in the past deliberately clicked on scam links, visited dodgy sites and run infected binaries on puppy and the worst I ever got was a browser crash....try it.
Thanks guys

Puppy users are curious users.
We take responsibility for our actions. For example we intend to run as root and if we delete our files, we know we are the culprit. We want to access our hard drive and files without too much 'mounting'. We friskily go to the dangerous regions of scams and trojan downloaders.

We are not scared or slowed down by our computers or operating system. We don't need 'a reputation' because we are free and have nothing to lose. :)

Run GROWL if you need to

XWindows won't run

#62 Post by Frank Cox »

Hi Pizza: I was trying the different settings in the xorgwizard and then typing xwin . Then I was away from that machine a few days and now it works perfectly.

Thanks for the advice, I made a copy of the commands you suggested and if it happens again I will be that far ahead.

Thanks!

Good Wikipedia article on Linux malware here -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_malware. Great to see that AVG, Avira, and Avast! now all offer free Linux anti-malware.

Lots of 'could' and 'would' in there and no 'actuals'...seems like people want there to be a problem...no mention of why windows is so vulnerable and how those mechanisms do not exist on other systems.

Any system can be sabotaged if a file can be added and executed...the question is how is that achieved.

ps did you press the button

If you burn a clean ISO and use it in a CDROM drive,
and never mount a hard drive while online
(you don't even need one)
and you do a hard reset or flip your power switch
and your BIOS is in EPROM (27Cxxxx series Chip), NOT FLASH,
OR your computer cannot possibly run VISTA...

THEN THERE IS NO WAY IN HELL YOU CAN GET A VIRUS!!!

Javascripts annoy me and make me hit reset.

WAIT!!!
I will question [red]YTIMG.COM[/red]. If you use Youtube,
a folder called YTIMG will be created until you clean reboot,
and nothing can block it as far as I know.
If you save an SFS, then you'll be stuck with it.
You will get stuffed with unrequested junk from that site
at any time, and if it fills up your RAM you have to restart
whatever browser you are using.
[red]It turns on the webcam and microphone.[/red]
[blue]It is NOT needed to view videos.[/blue]
It has a hidden deactivation feature that I don't believe really works.
I would like to know if and how it is possible to block YTIMG since
it has a multitude of IP addresses.

VIRUS-LIKE PHENOMENON:
THE FOLLOWING IS NOT A VIRUS BUT SURE LOOKS LIKE ONE AND
IS PROBABLY JUST AS DANGEROUS....

edit:continued from diversion...

NEVER USE A LAPTOP IN YOUR LAP WITH A PHONE IN YOUR POCKET.
The microwaves (from the phone) can interfere with the mouse and
erase the DRAM and FLASH indirectly by interfering with the system
bus. The results may look amazingly like an aggressive rootkit
attack

*** ALL ABOUT VIRUSES ***
VIRUSES ARE CAUSED BY A POLICY OF MIXING SOFTWARE AND DATA,
AND NOT WRITE PROTECTING SOFTWARE MEDIA.

HARD DRIVES ARE THE COMMON VECTOR,
SINCE THEY DO NOT HAVE HARDWARE WRITE PROTECT OPTIONS.
SD Cards do, so they are better than USB drives,
but test SD cards anyway because the switch is not real,
and the slot is supposed to detect it in hardware. If it is not
implemented in hardware, then corrupt software can ignore
the switch and modify the SD. Floppies have hard write-protect
switches, but have been obsolete for a long time.
CDROM discs and drives can not burn or be burned,
so they are the SAFEST least expensive thing to run software on.

The big bad notorious and expensive OS with the devil's TOS has
a general policy of combining software and data, and allowing it
to be modified so easily a troglodyte could do it. Unfortunately
there are a lot of those with billions of dollars to waste on that
OS.
It requires subhuman intelligence to believe that the most
advanced machines available get sick and need medicine from
someone other that those who made those machines.
How is it that people buy broken software that the writers
themselves can't fix, and then buy "medicineware" from a
multitude of OTHER sources?

It is incredible that people think that OS needs to get bigger and
download updates very slowly, which slow down the machine.
(If it ain't broken enough, break it more?)
It is very hard (and against the TOS) to run said OS on a write-
protected disk, which in all other cases has been NORMAL
PROCEDURE for operating a computer. Hard Drives have
always been such unreliable storage devices that Mainframes
have always been continuously backing them up to huge
tapes, or never less than once a week.

I have seen BIOS source code. IT IS ALL Drivers!
Video card driver. Sound card driver. Keyboard driver.
Mouse driver. Printer driver(*). USB driver. Net driver.
If the BIOS doesn't have it, it should be in the new device.
Obviously BIOS can boot disks too. SO, can anyone tell
me why an OS would need a different driver for each OS version,
and for each make and model of each device?

The answer is that drivers are spyware and have been since
1995 at least, when I first saw a firewall report a camera driver
trying to access the internet. Firewalls wouldn't be necessary
if OS and software ignored unrequested packets, and the code
was visible so that we can see what it is supposed to do.
Professional code for ubiquitous use should not only be visible
but well commented in source to be debugged by the user
when the user is offline and safely and voluntarily unprotected.

(*)Printer drivers are especially suspicious and of doubtful
necessity, since it has always been EASY to operate a printer
EVEN WITHOUT A COMPUTER. There are many pre-teens capable
enough in electronics to build something that makes ANY printer
print ... whatever they type on a keyboard! It would take me an
hour to build something with NO MEMORY and NO PROCESSOR
that either prints HELLO WORLD endlessly, or counts from 0 to
infinity. Driving any printer is so easy, calculators can do it!
(and Adding machines, cash registers, etc.)

The big bad OS is something GUI that's full of (bogus) viruses!

WRITE PROTECT ALL SOFTWARE! GET NO VIRUS EVER!
 That big fat OS is something GUI that's full of VIRUSES.

I have many computers dating back to 1979 that haven't been
updated, have survived y2k, and never get viruses. A few of them
even have internet access. Most of them run BASIC. Few of them
have OS, either DOS or LINUX, mostly for www related purposes.
Software can be FREE because it is dumb to keep writing the
same thing over and over again and trying to sell it; even if
you succeed, it's pointless; there is nothing NEW to buy with
the profits, if everyone just redundantly does business as usual.
Viruses are the only reason people WANT to buy new ones.
Virus is the word originally used for "Malware", and is latin for
poison. I am amazed that some people try to tell me
that they have some good non-destructive uses.

Beware of M$ java and jscript and SWF, they are trojans.
Read eula and weep.
The M$ Kontract AGREEment says they own the OS and machine,
and they may destroy it as they please. They also remove your
legal copy rights and make you liable for a non-crime.
See AHRA Section 1008, "betamax", (your USA recording copyrights)
DMCA (no descrambling),
CBDTPA (steals your TV and PC and makes you buy theirs).
Champernowne Constant (also called "Pi-Pod AMP" All Music Player)
This paragraph is completely legal.
