Trouble seeing Gimp (Solved) Subject description: green lines everywhere |
|
I hope I've put this into the right section of the Forum. My apologies if it's better placed elsewhere.
I'm having trouble with Gimp, and have always had this issue with Puppy. It doesn't matter which version of Puppy, or which version of Gimp, the problem seems to be the same - when I use a brush etc in gimp, I end up with so many green lines across the screen, I can no longer see what I'm doing. See attached image.
I have used Quickpet to install the Xorg High driver as suggested.
Below is the information from the Display Information (Menu>System>System Status & Config>Hardinfo Hardware Information).

I assume the problem is with the video card or something like that. At the moment, I'm using Lucid 5.2, which is great. My laptop is an IBM Thinkpad (lenovo) X31 with

Thanks for any help that you might be able to give. I'd love to do more with Gimp.

That looks a /lot/ to me like an overloaded graphics card going pukey all over your pictures.
I'm guessing either (a) installing a special driver if one is available or (b) increasing the amount of RAM used by the graphics chip (do this in BIOS) is necessary. If neither one works, then it's probably time to upgrade.
That said... I'm no expert with the GIMP so feel free to ignore me if you want.

Sounds like dodgy graphics drivers.
You could try disabling OpenGL or using Xvesa instead of Xorg.

Thanks all,
I'll try it with xvesa and see how it goes.

Thanks for your support and suggestion.
Changed to vesa and all seems to work fine now. I don't know if that will affect anything else, but Gimp is nice and clean now.
Thanks for your help, disciple. Bugman, you have the right idea.
Enjoy life.

It will prevent you from using hardware video acceleration (e.g. in gxine or Mplayer)

Well, then it shouldn't be a great problem.
Cheers
