i3lock

This utility can be downloaded from standard repositories, so it should be available to both Puppy and Dog-based OS.

i3lock is a simple screen locker like slock. After starting it, you will see a white screen (you can configure the color/an image). You can return to your screen by entering your password.

It works as intended, installed from repositories.

Here is a fork of i3lock, called : i3lock-fancy. This package requires i3lock-color, scrot and image magick to be installed in order to run.

For i3lock-fancy bash script (zip file download) : https://meskarune.github.io/i3lock-fancy/

Note :
There was a bug with Mintpup, not unlocking desktop despite entering password. But on another Ubuntu-based OS (not from Puppy or Dog family), it works as intended. If it happens to you, do CTRL+ALT+Back Space (it will help you go back to login screen).

Conclusion :
You can simply use i3lock as an on-demand screen locker : in terminal i3lock -n
or configure it to be used according to your needs (change of color, etc).
