Poptray-0.8 a pop3 mail count, tray icon with sound.

#1 Post by tasmod »

Poptray-0.8

Same as Gmail, updated with sound notification of new mail from last count.

Right click menu item for Sound, test play and set. Option OFF turns off the sound.

Poptray-0.7

Spammers keep on trying with those mail header ISO tricks!!

Now should display decoded text correctly provided LANG env variable is set to your country.

i.e. if set to LANG = en_GB
this should make the previous "?" in decoded text become "£" which is correct.
I believe this works for "$" as well.

Poptray-0.6

Surprised no-one reported v0.5 didn't decode properly as there was a vital file missing from the pet.

This is an update with the file plus a 4 stage decode routine. This is in response to receiving more differently encoded mail headers.

It decodes and writes back and forth before headers are displayed as tooltip (takes milliseconds , just describing what happens).

Now, this worked for me on a fresh install of Lucid 5.1.1 but obviously it needs testing more thoroughly on others PCs.

Please report if it doesn't decode.
Not stray £ or & signs or such like, I can't do anything about those, it's the tooltip format.

Poptray-0.5

Sure enough, as soon as I received an iso8859 mail it errored out. It wasn't the code but the saved file that was the problem. It is now double decoded in the hope it will display correctly.

Poptray-0.4

Straight to 0.4 as it's quite a code update.

UPDATED

This is now much larger in byte size for the package but still uses same memory amount when running as last one. It's almost identical memory to 'blinky' the network status icon.

There is now a separate decoding routine and perl library for the MIME encoded mail subject lines. So the tooltip mail subjects should be plain Ascii.

It's the decoding routines that have pushed up the package size.

I've added the menu feature to change the 'check mail' interval up to 30 minutes in 1 minute increments. Default is 5 minutes.

CHANGES:-
Displays subject of up to 3 last emails in tooltip.
Different error routine and restart loop, I hope to have caught non connection and boot startup problems.
No mails means closed envelope icon.
Mails means opened envelope icon.
Left click on icon opens default email handler.

ORIGINAL text. I will leave 0.1 on for those who don't want email subject text tooltip.

This is a pop3 mail version of the Gmailtray tray icon. Note: It displays mail count on server, NOT new mails.

When first run it will open the user setup window.

Enter your user details and the pop server (ACCURATELY, I cannot trap wrong details!)
If they are incorrect, it will not run, then delete the three applicable files in /usr/local/poptray and run the app again to enter new details.

The user password is saved encrypted in the file.

When you click apply it will close window and exit. You will then need to restart the app from the main menu Internet/Poptray menu entry.

This is important, as yet I cannot get the routine to start correctly after details are entered, so it needs the menu start.

In tests here the mail count return has been very fast indeed.

Again, I have set the rescan for mails to 5-6 minutes between scans, there is of course the right click menu entry to check immediately.

I would appreciate feedback as I only have one pop3 account I can test it upon.

Problem with HTML mails, see first post. Ver 0.2.1 quick update posted.

I'm working on version 0.3 and hope to settle this.

Version 0.3 will also have user selectable time interval between mail checks to server.

Can Poptray work in Wary

#10 Post by tuxtoo »

I have installed poptray-0.8.pet in wary-512. Although is seems to run ok there is no icon on the tray but a space is made for it and left or right clicking on this space in the tray has no effect.

I have gtrayicon-1.1.pet installed to take care of a gmail account but would like poptray to take care of pop3 accounts. Any help on getting poptray functional in Wary would be appreciated.
