Searching for Bibles

#32 Post by pchan »

Hi,

I have been searching for a good free Bible software. Bible time is nice but my problem is I find it hard to to do any under line, or highlights whenever i come across verses that i am inspired or i think important.

Or, is there some way that Bibletimes allows readers to underline or make highlights that i do not know of?

Really appreciate if the developer can consider adding this important features so that I can make good use of my laptop for reading (studying) Bibles instead of just using my normal paper Bible.

In another post, "the word" was suggested. The word is good but it only works under wine so it will not load as fast as a Bible software made to run under linux (puppy linux).

Thanks

Sorry, as far as I know, Bibletime does not support that feature. IMO, theWord is your best choice for that feature. On my hardware, I find that theWord loads and runs under Wine in puppy faster than it does under it's native MS Windows. Which pup are you using, some are much faster than others? For example if your hardware is 64 bit, LHP will be releasing an updated 64 bit version shortly that has a simple installation of TheWord and is very fast.

EDIT: TaZoC has released his final Lighthouse 64 5.15F. It has an installation program for theWord that works fine.

Regards,
Jim

Precise Puppy 5.4

#34 Post by Jim1911 »

Barry's latest release is working great with Bibletime and is one of the few that runs Xiphos which is installed from the Ubuntu repositories using the PPM. It's a great base for your Bible study since along with Bibletime you can install Xiphos for a fine system using only free linux software. This PPM does not include Bibletime, however, pemasu's Bibletime available here works great.
Barry's Release Notes wrote:Precise Puppy is built from Ubuntu Precise Pangolin 12.04.1+ binary DEB packages, hence has binary compatibility with Ubuntu and access to the vast Ubuntu package repository. Couple that with Puppy's tiny size, speed and ease-of-use, and this is one incredible pup!

This is the very first release of Precise Puppy. It is assigned version 5.4 to indicate it's position relative to the other puppies, such as Wary 5.3 and Slacko 5.3.3 (5.4 coming soon).

A lot of work has happened at the "Woof-level" since the release of Wary 5.3 in April 2012 -- of particular importance to Precise are the many enhancements to the Puppy Package Manager (PPM). At the "Precise-level" there has been a very long period of testing and refinement, over several months.

As Ubuntu Precise Pangolin is a 5-year Long Term Supported release, we expect that Precise Puppy will be also.
Cheers,
Jim

Request for update to Bibletime 2.9.2

#39 Post by Jim1911 »

@All

The recent update of Bibletime 2.9.2 has fixed numerous bugs including one that eliminated text from Ubuntu Raring compatible pups. I've requested some developers to consider an update package to Bibletime 2.9.2 for their pups.

Regards,
Jim

Quirky Tahr 6.05

#41 Post by Jim1911 »

Bibletime works great on Barry's latest Quirky Tahr.
Barry wrote:Quirky6 is intended to be as small as possible (hence compiled from source in T2), very fast, very simple, and optimised to run on Flash memory media. Yes, yes, all those things, but the real distinguishing features are three, firstly the very eclectic set of goals (see list below), secondly the thorough recovery/backup/upgrade mechanisms, and thirdly the optmisation to run as a "full installation" -- the latter needs to be appreciated in relation to Puppy Linux. There are other extended ideas that are in the pipeline.
I have it installed on a flash drive and find that it works great and is exceptionally fast. It does require the whole partition or drive. Bibletime is installed by clicking on the install icon which runs the Quirky Package Manager. Be sure to first configure the package manager, otherwise your search may not find Bibletime and even if it is found it probably will not install.

Thank you Barry,
Jim

Fatdog64-630

#42 Post by Jim1911 »

Kirk and James wrote: are pleased to announce the release of Fatdog 630 Final.
This release marks the fourth, and probably last, release of the Fatdog 600 series and comes with a lot of improvements over the last release, Fatdog64-621.
Bibletime 2.9.1 has not been updated to version 2.9.2, however it runs great on the latest Fatdog64. Give it a try, it's installed using the Fatdog64 Package Manager in the Fatdog64 Control Panel. Thank you Kirk and James for another fine distribution.

The Bibletime web site wrote:The BibleTime team is proud to announce the immediate availability of BibleTime version 2.10.0, which is the first release in the stable 2.10 series of BibleTime.

Notable changes since 2.9.2:

Added support for HTTP, HTTPS, SFTP transports in BibleTime.
Implemented saving of font family and size in HTML commentary editor.
Bugs fixed:
Fixed problem where certain alternate versification bibles did not display old testament.
Fixed Windows Control Panel version was to be correct.
Fixed search analysis save dialog filters.
Fixed search analysis save asking for overwrite confirmation twice.
Optimized and enhanced search analysis to output proper XHTML.
Fixed widget ending up disabled after removing install source.
Mag Window uses current module if no default cross reference is set.
Fixed a bug in the HTML commentary editor which resulted in text formatting from the cursor to be applied to the whole selection.
Allow comboxboxes on config dialog desk page to resize.
Fixed some lexicons never working.
Fixed high stack memory usage on indexing.
Fixed unexpected exception with encrypted modules.
Fixed application freeze during installation of works.
Presently, this is not available for puppy. I have requested that Kirk and James update it for Fatdog64-630 and for Mick to update it for Slacko 5.7. Pray that they will find time to accomplish an update and that others will provide it for their distributions.

Jim

Bibletime 2.10.0

#44 Post by Jim1911 »

James and Kirk have compiled the latest Bibletime 2.10.0 for use with their outstanding Fatdog64-630 Operating System. Presently it's not available in the Package Manager, however it is in their pet repository.

Note: The Fatdog64-630 Bibletime 2.10.0 update also works on Slacko64 - 64 bit Puppy version alpha 5.8.8.

Thanks again to James and Kirk for their continued support of Bibletime in their OS.

Slacko64

#45 Post by Jim1911 »

Fatdog64's latest Bibletime 2.10.0, above, also works great on Mick's Slacko64. The attached screenshot also shows radky's FbBox which is a fine addition and is available for both 32 and 64 bit OS. Slacko64, although still an alpha version looks good and is working fine on my hardware.

Jim

Fatdog64 700 alpha 1

#46 Post by Jim1911 »

Kirk and Jamesbond have released their new Fatdog64 700 alpha 1 that works great for your Bible Study for those that have 64bit hardware. James has also updated to the latest Bibletime 2.10.1 for their newest OS. :D

Bibletime is installed using gslapt. In gslapt, click "update" first so that it updates the index. Then search for Bibletime and select it. Gslapt also installs libsword and other dependencies except for qt4.

To complete the installation, get the qt4-4.8.5.sfs here and load the sfs using the System SFS Loader under System in the Fatdog Control Panel.

I've found the new Fatdog64 700 a1 to be extremely fast and stable. Give it a try on your 64bit system.

Thanks again to the Fatdog team for continuing to support Bibletime. :D

NOTE: There is a small problem with this latest version in that verse numbers are not showing up in the text. The problem is also in the latest Windows version and was injected by the latest Bibletime update. It has nothing to do with Fatdog's update.

Regards,
Jim
