A few applications can easily be made to appear in the language of your choice:

For Opera: download a language-file to opera's locale dir(/usr/share/opera/locale). Go to tools-preferenses and choose your language.

For Abiword: download a Abiword.profile file made for your language, or copy it from some other installation.Put it in /root/.Abisuite/
Download also a strings file in your language, and copy it to your strings directory.
Download a dictionary file and put it in dictionary dir.

For firefox: download firefox in your language. Unzip it and run installer: it's working

I would enroll in a project to translate as much as possible Puppy to spanish, starting with the more used components and apps.

I'm not able in Linux but I'm good in translation. If somebody says to me exactly what I hace to translate I can do it.

If anybody is really interested in this project, may be we could gather a small groups and could coordinate ourseleves.

I suggest you start organising here:
http://www.goosee.com/puppy/wikka/SpanishLanguage

If you also want to create a page (probably best in English) for those hoping to translate to other languages that would be a good idea too

Smile

So you would have a link on the Spanish page like this [[TranslatingPuppy Translating Puppy to other languages]]

The name of the page will be TranslatingPuppy (note in CamelCase)
On the page will appear: Translating Puppy to other languages

Has anyone succeeded in translating Puppy into a language other than English? If so, would you share the translated file with me?

PostPosted: Fri 19 Aug 2005, 14:15    Post subject: Has someone already started on a french translation?

Hi All,

Thanks a lot for all the information. I wonder if somebody already started translating into french. Otherwise I will start it, but I don't like double work than i better do something else.

I used puppy now for a few months in a testcase as installation in cybercafe situation. Well works great you already knew that, and nearly the only complain was that people who are only used to see french windows based cybercafe's was the language.

Using Puppy seems to be no problem for the general public!!!!! Now the languages...

Hi there!
I just wanted to tell the world that I've started (slowly) to translate Puppy into Czech language. First I'm starting with some info on Wikki in Czech and then I'd like to translate at least some menus right in Puppy.
In case somebody wants to give a hand I'll appreciate if you send me a message so we can avoid doing one thing doubble. Tx!

Thanks! Smile
Just to make sure - to translate Puppy into Czech do I have to translate these files?
/root/.fvwm95rc
/root/.jwmrc
Or are there yet other files?

PostPosted: Mon 27 Mar 2006, 07:54    Post subject: Puppy in French need some help

I m a German IT-Professional engaged in Development-Projects in southern Senegal (Casamance), West-Africa. One of our projects is about building up a simple, cheap, easy to use and reliable
Communication-System, where Internet-Access is the core.

I tested Puppy and I think, itÿs a great solution! Yes, Puppy is ideal, except for the language problem.

Language: the prospective users in Senegal donÿt understand English, only French. I could not find a French-Puppy-Distribution. Who is interested in a French version of Puyy?

Why do the work twice. I could do the translation, but I'm no expert in Linux (how to get the French stuff in the system).
We would really appreciate getting some help on this for a project which will ameliorate the deplorable
communication-situation in these regions.

PostPosted: Mon 27 Mar 2006, 09:58    Post subject: You might wish to translate

More French users - more liklihood of French developers
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/FrenchLanguage

More French pages by OuI such as
http://puppylinux.org/wikka/QueFairePourProgrammeEnUnDeuxTroisPointsPourUsagersDeWindowsDeMicrosoft
are on the wiki

If you wish to translate then I would suggest SimplePup is a good starting point

or you can just change the menu like so - this is easy - I did it
http://www.murga.org/%7Epuppy/viewtopic.php?p=16172#16172

It is up to those who have translated, to document and aid others if they have the time.

Also check out the developer news for 27 March 2006
http://www.puppylinux.com/news.htm

Do not think translating is difficult - think of Puppy as bits or modules. Read the existing material and use the forum for support.

You can translate this:
http://tmxxine.com/puppy/man9.rtf

or how about doing wink tutorials in your language?

How about an intro in your chosen language?
http://www.tmxxine.com/web/puppy3/

Bon Chance
