pup lite

#1 Post by claude »

Using PupLite (puplite-5.0-k2.6.25.16), after booting and selecting Xorg (probing video mode), pup_save-2fs has been created and saved normaly: when I reboot, Xorgwizard is always asking for Xorg or Xvesa.....

The installation is a frugal one.

Any hint please ?

Thank you very much

I have this same problem on older computers (read: almost everything in my house!) -- not sure what it is, but I can say this: it ain't Puplite. Almost every Puppy 4xx-based version has the same behavior.

Perhaps there's a config file to edit somewhere...?

I tried Puppy 4.2 and 4.3.1 on the same machine and never had this problem.

That's interesting...

What are the specs of this machine of yours?

I just tried puplite 5.0 kernel 2.6.32.8 and the problem is the same.

The machine configuration is the following:

Toshiba Satellite 4090XDVD, cpu Celeron 400 Mhz, 192 megabytes of ram.

Puppy 4.3.1 and 5.2 are working fine on this machine.....

My guess is that is has something to do with shinobars updates which boot straight to X, and change the way a few things work.. If it's not that, it could be the newer Xorg not playing nicely.. In that case, you can rename /usr/sbin/xorgwizard to something else, and then rename /usr/sbin/xorgwizard-old to /usr/sbin/xorgwizard

Other than that, nothing much has changed in Puplite (in this regard) that is different from TurboPup.

Mr. Sc0ttman, you are right.....

I rename Xorgwizard to Xorgwizard.new and Xorwizard.old to Xorgizard.

I Exit to prompt: I re-executed Xorgwizard and then I rebooted and now the video configuration has been saved and reloaded as usual...

It looks like Xorwizard (new one for Puplite 21 jan 2011) has something different from the Xorwizard.old (dated 18 feb 2009).

Is there a way I can change pup_420.sfs to replace the module Xorgwizard for the old one ?

Thank you very much for your help.

There is no need to change the sfs, the changes are made and will only require around 10kb of your pupsave space! However, if you feel you must rebuild the SFS with this small change, then you can use the 'Edit-SFS' tool in Menu->Utility.

Mr. Sc0ttman,

I agree with you: I only wanted to rebuild the sfs for my own learning of being able to do it.

Thank you very much for your support.

OK, then for information purposes, 'Edit-SFS' (Menu->Utility) and 'Woofy' (Menu->Setup) are the 2 tools included which make rebuilding your main SFS as easy as possible.

Edit SFS allows you to manually change your SFS contents, using your file manager, and Woofy give a more automated way to remove things, add packages, and change settings.

There is, of course, also the RemasterPup tool, but it's not as simple as the 2 mentioned above.
