No sound on Asus P8H6-MX R2.0 motherboard [SOLVED]

#1 Post by tuxtoo »

This fix may not be the fix I wanted but it is a fix none the less. I bought a new barebones PC base unit with no OS to replace a Pentium 4 PC that died. The motherboard is an Asus P8H6-MX R2.0 dual core with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB HD, 4GB swap and three equal partitions formatted ext3.

I am running Puppy-412 HD install and was unable to get the sound working. I tried various solutions from the forum to no avail. The fix was a bit of a longshot but I bought an ‘External USB 3D 5.1 Channel PC Audio Sound Card’ for £1.50 (GB Pounds) from ebay UK. So if the fix did not work there was no great loss but the fix worked and I now have sound. This may be a fix for any other Puppy users who are unable to get sound on their PC with Puppy. There are many sellers of this USB sound card on ebay UK although I expect they should be available from ebay in your part of the world. I have included a photo below for reference although they come in many different colours.

If you are curious as to why I am running Puppy-412 on a new PC and not a more up to date version just visit http://412collection.co.uk for the answer.

that's a great tip, sometimes cheap compatible hardware is easier than persuading the stubborn ones. 8)
