Hi.

I have found that this version has a wrong entry in its .desktop file. The entry is:

Exec=pets2sfsgui

The entry has to be:

Exec=/usr/local/pd2sfsgui/petsNdebs2sfsgui

This seems to be happened because pets2sfsgui is a symbolic link to /usr/local/pd2sfsgui/petsNdebs2sfsgui inside my private LazY Puppy Version.

---

Because of no one did complain (44 downloads since Oct. 15) I assume all did use it the way I do - with right-click action.
That's surely a lot more comfortable than to use the GUI. 8)

Will upload a "fixed" version soon ---> even though there seems to be no need for a hurry. :D

Thank you backi.

Although I wrote this Program and its installed in my private Version of LazY Puppy, I don't use it very much.
I have to and also want to edit the .desktop files (for a German menu) of each and every application and therefor I mostly put parts together manually.

But, yes, you're right:
Makes live a lot easier
When using it, I do use it mostly as a first step, to find out, if a collection of .deb files (from ubuntu) would work. If so, then I begin to edit the sfs manually.

Great Tool -- minor suggestion

#6 Post by mikeslr »

Hi RSH,

Thanks for the great tool. But unless I've missed it may I suggest/request a hopefully easy to add modification. Currently I can only add one pet/deb at a time to the list to be processed. But like the situation you faced when you were inspired to create PaDS, on a couple of occasions I had to include a substantial number of pets/debs. Would it be possible to point PaDS to a directory and have it include for processing all the files in that directory: sort of like ffmpeg-convert does?

Thanks in advance.

Hi mikestr!

The PaDS includes a file: /root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/OpenWith/.inode_directory/Combine to SFS

So, why not just doing a right-click on a directory containing deb and pet files?

Or doesn't it work?

PaDS 1.0.3

#8 Post by RSH »

Hi.

I have updated this application for the use in Precise.

Some Precise .deb Packages do include a directory i386-linux-gnu in /lib and/or /usr/lib. Content of this directory needs to be copied either to /lib or to /usr/lib to let the SFS Module work and to haven't any missing libraries.

PaDS 1.0.3 changes all this now automatically. So content of /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu will be copied to /usr/lib and directory /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu then will be replaced by a symbolic link /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu, which is linked then to ./

Link is still at first post.

Hi.

I'm sorry, but I forgot to include a directory containing a file and also to replace two parts of code in the scripts.

It's now fixed and successfully tested - both functions:

- by right-click action
- by using the GUI

Very useful. I was able to create a functioning SFS in no time at all.

Thank you! :)

Just added a direct link to download to the post above and to the first post, to make downloading the package a little easier.

It may have been a little confusing to download manually from a DE page.

For three weeks, I test your utility.
PADS is really convenient.
Thank you very much!

Though, be careful when using the Rox right-click-option of PaDS for big files.

A few days ago I did create a SFS Module of Octave3.2_3.2.4-12 from Ubuntu Repository.

It has downloaded 287 .deb files with a size in complete of 306 MB and PaDS has build a SFS Module sized 320 MB (from those 287 .deb files, assembled in a directory).

To build such huge SFS Modules by right-click-action at least 2 GB of RAM is recommended, since it will be build in RAM and currently there is no Option to choose a partition when using the right-click option of PaDS.

Hi.

Version 1.0.4 uploaded.

Link is in the first post.

Now it creates also SFS Modules for Slacko from .pet and .txz files.

GUI and right-click option.

Though I've tested in in Precise, test results from Slacko will be Welcome.

Hi Rainer

It seems so that PaDS doesn't be able to build the SFS for the Xombrero.pet

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewto ... 59&t=86060

why?

(the xombrero.pet works!)

Next question: have you somewhat analog with PaDS for *.tar.bz2 / *.tar.gz (those containing a binary package)?

Can we consider that the goal is an universal *.sfs usable in both normal puplets and lazyed puplets? Is the prefix LP2 useful?

And last question:

What ist to do to preserve the existence of SARA-B in a remastered version of puplet using your remaster suite *.pet (different from LazY, it seems that after remasteuring once the puplet will not be recognize as "Next Start" and the Setting and Greetings little windows opens :x ...)

Regards

Hallo oui.
It seems so that PaDS doesn't be able to build the SFS for the Xombrero.pet
I have tested PaDS 1.0.4.

At 1st I've tested the installed version in L.A.S.S.I.E. which works and did successfully create the SFS Module from the xombrero-1.4.0.pet.

At the 2nd test I downloaded PaDS 1.0.4 and installed it into a fresh booted Precise Puppy 571 which created also successfully the SFS Module from the xombrero-1.4.0.pet.

Both tests in L.A.S.S.I.E. and Precise 571 were done once by the GUI (which is still the GUI from pets2sfsgui) and once by right-click-action (put the xombrero-1.4.0.pet into a directory for this and right-clicked this directory).

See attached image (just don't know what's going wrong when you tried this)

However, Xombrero didn't work in L.A.S.S.I.E. and it didn't work in Precise 571 (tested from SFS Module and from installed version). It is complaining a missing libicui18n.so.48 which might be just a symbolic link - don't know this. The Package Manager could not find this lib - maybe the Package Manager needs to be updated again.
Next question: have you somewhat analog with PaDS for *.tar.bz2 / *.tar.gz (those containing a binary package)?
No, currently not. But I can add this to the ToDo list for the next PaDS update.
Can we consider that the goal is an universal *.sfs usable in both normal puplets and lazyed puplets? Is the prefix LP2 useful?
It doesn't matter if the LP2_ prefix is used in the file name of the SFS or if it is not used. A LP2_xxx.sfs made for L.A.S.S.I.E. should work generally in Precise 571.

What does matter indeed, is: if you are adding the LP2_ prefix manually to the name of an SFS Module, you NEED to convert it to SFS P.L.U.S. format before using it to create a SARA-RSD Application with SARA-B and/or to create a SFS P.L.U.S. RunScript.

If you are creating a SFS Module directly by right-clicking a .pet package in LazY Puppy and/or L.A.S.S.I.E., the LP2_ prefix will be added automatically, because this function creates automatically a SFS Module already converted to SFS P.L.U.S. format.
What ist to do to preserve the existence of SARA-B in a remastered version of puplet using your remaster suite *.pet)
You are referring to the LazY-Remaster-1.2.6.pet?

Just do NOT copy SARA-B into the Puppy's filesystem. Use it from a ext partition (sda1, sdc3 or whatever is a ext partition).

In L.A.S.S.I.E. just remove it from /usr/local/apps before remastering.
(different from LazY, it seems that after remasteuring once the puplet will not be recognize as "Next Start" and the Setting and Greetings little windows opens :x ...)
You are referring to the LazY-Remaster-1.2.6.pet?
Which Puppy did you try to remaster with this?

While doing these tests I found another small issue in SARA-B, which I will post in the SARA-B thread.

Hello @RSH

Couple of Questions
  • Is this utility capable of combining multiple SFSs in to single SFS for SARA B planting into the desktop?
  • Or for some reason, is this restricted to PETs-DEBs into a SFS for SARA B planting into the desktop?
Curious
