Can I use one of these domains or a host in one of them?

#1 Post by jmarsden »

I've now set up two sites for specific Puppy purposes, the CGI:IRC gateway and, hours ago, a bug tracker. Any chance these can get real (rather than web host provided) names?

If someone can "give" me puppylinux.net I am willing to manage its DNS. I'd point www.puppylinux.net at www.puppylinux.org, and point bugs.puppylinux.net and bugtracker.puppylinux.net and mantis.puppylinux.net at the big tracker. Maybe also point irc.puppylinux.net and chat.puppylinux.net at the CGI:IRC gateway site.

Alternatively, (or even in addition!) if someone can add DNS records into the pupylinux.org zonefile, adding CNAME records that point from irc.puppylinux.org and chat.puppylinux.org to puppyirc.nfshost.com and from bugs.puppylinux.org (and bugtracker and mantis?) to tracker.nfshost.com would also be fine with me.

Hmm, this was intended as a reply to http://www.murga.org/~puppy/viewtopic.php?t=6175 but seems to have become a new thread all by itself. That happened to me once before... makes me very wary of ever again adding a new subject to a reply!

The Mantis tracker is for both bug reports and requests for enhancement. It is already localized into several languages, see http://www.mantisbt.org/localization.php -- but unfortunately Vietnamese is not yet included... but the capability to provide a single text file of strings and get Vietnamese to work is there. It has pretty good email integration so that developers (including BarryK if he so chooses!) can be notified in email when things happen regarding items that are relevant to them.

I have no particular strong desire to host Mantis forever... if one of the more official / larger Puppy sites wants to take it on, we can of course transfer it very simply as long as they run PHP and a MySQL database (basically). As long as usage of it is enough to make it useful, and not so large it hurts financially (which seems unlikely at this point), I'm willing to continue it -- but if someone else wants to host this for the Puppy community, or it would be better / faster/ more reliable / whatever somewhere else, let me know and we can work out transferring it.

I knew nothing about Mantis until a few minutes ago, when I read a
brief review. Looks good.
They also mentioned Bluetail Ticket Tracker: http://btt.sourceforge.net/

I'm very interested in being the host for a bug tracker. I was gradually
thinking in that direction. First thing, I am going to experiment with
WordPress, but that does not have the features needed for a bug tracker
(not that I know of anyway). Then, I was planning to experiment with
some bug trackers.

I've just signed up with a new host. I received the renewal notice for
goosee.com's host, which expires next month, so had to do
something quick. Servage has already run into overload.
So, I'm moving goosee.com and puppylinux.com to the new host, which
will give some breathing space for puppylinux.org on Servage
-- and no worries about paying for the Servage hosting, as 4 - 5
people have used the referral system so far.
My new host has a higher capacity than Servage.
But, I can't say yes right now that I'll take on Mantis, as I haven't yet
looked at the options.
