exchanged Rox-Filer

#76 Post by don570 »

I exchanged your 'Rox-Filer' folder with the folder I found in pemasu's
Exprimo and the effect was to make Rox act like in other variants
of Puppy.

So I did the switch with
/root/.config/rox.sourceforge.net/Rox-Filer

and restarted X.

don570,

Yes I have changed the default settings of ROX. I wouldn't replace globeicons cause, it will overwrite my custom ones, and ROX will look more plain. The Options file is all you really need to replace, and I already added the Bookmarks.xml file into the patch. I also set it to explore the real linux root folder instead of the /root folder. That can be changed with wbar-config..just remove the "/" at the end.

Right now I am trying to figure out how to compile wifi drivers from source...

Developers and Petmakers might find this one useful:
Just install the attached pet. Afterwards you will have another ROX-Filer right-click option for pet files to convert any pet into a folder to see its contents.
I have a non-right-click version in SolidPup beta and will be upgrading to this version for the final release.

This assumes you have the pet2tgz command which should come standard in Puppy (i think).

Edit: And I should add that the pet which you right-click on will remain intact.
The code may not be very elegant, but hey..it works. I might try to modify it some more later on but, I've got other things I have to take care of right now.

Karl Godt's compile of ROX-Filer solves the problem with ROX freezing in the /proc folder. I have to test it some more to see that it doesn't cause any unexpected side effects.

Solidpup Users,

It is recommended that you update to patch#2, which can be found on the first post of this thread. It has all of the fixes of patch#1 plus a fix for Rox-Filer and an upgrade of GetPackage. I will be removing the files for the old GetPackage later on, so it will no longer work if you do not update.

Since there haven't been any new bug reports, I will try to release a final version next week.

Don't download Midori; it doesn't work in SolidPup 5.1.1

This means that I will have to build separate GetPackages for Saluki and Solidpup. :(

Maybe something like

Code: Select all

[ -f /etc/DISTRO_SPECS ] && . /etc/DISTRO_SPECS
echo $DISTRO_SPECS

case "$DISTRO_SPECS" in
( do stuff )
esac
That might help you identify the pup being run, and load only the relevant stuff...

Thanks Pacer, Glad you like it.

Sc0ttman, thank you. I think I will try your idea and see how it goes. Maybe if things get a little too complex and large with the coding as new packages are added; I may create distro-specific versions to keep it more simplified.

Just downloaded SolidPup 5.1.1a4 and am posting from it now. I like it and so far I've had no problems with it at all; it works well and with a good colour scheme too. Thanks for the good work Tman.

Thanks Colonel,

Everyone, I am going to delay the final a4 release until after the new year. But using the beta plus patch#2 is pretty close to the final version. I just haven't gotten around to adding a few final touches. Also, it will make the final a 2012 release. :)

Great. But one thing I can't find a way to do in SolidPup is change the size of (i.e. resize) the save file. Is there a way to do it now, or will this be added to the next version?

Thanks in advance,

CP .

The option for resize personal storage file is in the drive tab of PupControl Panel.

Hello Tman
Back in May...Tman wrote:Oligin10:
I have looked into the problem, with IceWM Configuration; apparently it works in Lucid Puppies but not Quirky or Wary. I have a hunch that it has something do with the GTK bug mentioned in the thread below:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=65675
Unfortunately, I cannot fix the problem :(
....
I believe i have found the answer to this little problem.

Whilst running PupControl via the terminal,
i noticed the error at line two as shown in the image below.

Running the command:

Code: Select all

which rpl
did not provide anything (as i expected)

So i looked for a .pet package but only managed to find one that was compiled in Puppy 3.01,
fortunately vovchik also provided a link where i got hold of the sources.

Attached is a .pet which was compiled in SolidPup511-a4-beta.iso
After installing that in a fresh frugal install, i was able to use PupControl to move the taskbar to the top.

Hope this helps

CatDude,

Indeed, your pet has fixed the issue with ice_config.sh. The menuitem for it can be re-enabled with Pmenu.
Fantastic work, CatDude! Thanks very much. :)

Final Release?

#94 Post by oligin10 »

Hi Tman, just checking to see if you were still going to do a final release for this. I noticed in Saluki postings that you were going to be scaling back. If you are not, could you please let us know? Thanks for all your contributions to Puppy and all your hard work. Thanks, Rob

Hi Rob and all,

Yes, I will wrap things up with Solidpup and then divert my full attention to my new project. I will see if I can work on it some more this weekend.

I am not really leaving Puppy, just I won't have as much free time for it as I used to.
