Subject description: How to tell if hardware will work before buying it?

I'm running Puppy 5.1 on my Intel DH55TC PC very happily.
It's currently displaying to a 1600x1200 screen (using DVI-I) but the screen is required elsewhere. A good option is a Viewsonic VX2439WM 24" 1920x1080 LCD (VGA/HDMI/DVD-D).
Before buying the screen (with no ability to return if Linux can't drive it) is there any way to tell in advance if it's likely to work? I don't want to install extra drivers - i.e. I'd like it to work from the standard Puppy live CD.

I borrowed a Viewsonic VX2433WM (which has very close specs to the VX2439WM) and that works out of the box with Puppy 5.1. Based on that test I bought a VX2439WM and it works with Puppy 5.1 as well. Great!
