/usr/share/applications for Russian

#287 Post by rodin.s »

I have checked and corrected Russian translations in /usr/share/applications
Also I've noticed that 'Name=' should be above all other 'Name[xx]=' for l10n to work.

Thats great, added... and looking good ;) I will upload another BETA before the final release, as I have updated the categories, adding a few more, so I updated some of the translations in /usr/bin/jwm_menu_create as well
Also I've noticed that 'Name=' should be above all other 'Name[xx]=' for l10n to work.
Hmm... I forgot about that, thanks... So I should probably use 'cat $file | sort | uniq' on each .desktop file to make sure Name= always appears before Name[**]=

To everyone:

I updated the main post with testing info

I would love people to test wife (wireless) in the new Akita Beta1, it may even be totally broken!!! :(

Atheros 5k pcmcia card works

#289 Post by oligin10 »

Hi Scott, only have 2 wireless cards to test. Atheros 5k pcmcia card works as it does in all series 4 based puplets. Realtek 8187b usb wifi does not work, same as in other series 4 based puplets. Thanks, Rob
P.S. Are you still looking at producing 2 versions with different kernels?

Thanks for the info, I have added just about every extra driver that tempestuous has made for the 2.6.25.16 kernel, maybe I missed some.. I will check the "Extra Drivers for Puppy 4.1 - k2.6.25.16" thread again.. Maybe I will find something there..

And yes, I am looking at releasing a version with a much updated kernel, with better support for new hardware, and maybe a few more options compiled in as well..

I would need to follow the instructions on "Switching Puppy Kernels" and choose one I like, or build one myself with Iguleders kernel build script.. Stealing a kernel from another puppy would be best, as it would include all the 3rd party drivers and such.. (easier for me!!)..

I am very open to suggestions as to which kernel to choose, I will almost certainly choose one of the Wary kernels, need to read Barry blog a bit... although I am looking for something 'different' to 2.6.25.16 - no point making something the same..

I think sticking with a Wary kernel is best, as we get the 3rd party drivers, barrys kernel expertise, also all the matching udev rules and so on are in Wary, ready to steal :)

But of course, if I stole the Fluppy kernel, I could steal the udev stuff and 3rd party drivers from Fluppy, too... And I am curious to see if I can get it to work well on my EeePC...

Which reminds me, I MUST remember to setup xbindkeysconfog to support the most common netbook and laptop Fn keys .... Pemasu sent me a PM about it a while back, but I didn't get an example rcfile or anything :(

Aside from the steps taken in the "Switching kernels" thread, I am sure udev rules need to be updated, as does mksquashfs (sfs3 to sfs4), and I would really appreciate any other guidance before I actually do it...

Also, I believe Ndiswrapper and wpa_supplicant are supposed to be re-compiled with a new kernel.. And also i195resolution as well (maybe).. So all those things would be to also be stolen from whichever ISO I use to steal a new kernel!

(Sorry if this post look all messed up, I am using elinks right now, can't be bothered to install a 'real' browser... ;) )

wary Kernel

#291 Post by oligin10 »

+1 on the Wary kernel. It is the only kernel that seems to work on all my hardware. I have another wireless usb that will only work with Wary kernel. Wary kernel seems to be the most stable with best hardware support. I can use Wary NOP and Wary 511. Wary 511 Tiny by Tman does not have as much hardware support. My usb key Realtek 8? does not work with it. Only Realtek 8187b usb and Atheros 5k pcmcia work with Wary 511 Tiny. Thanks, Rob

Cool thanks for the info... I think that a Wary kernel would actually support ALL the hardware that Puppy4 (k2.6.25.16) supports, plus newer stuff, too... Can't really see much of a downside to using one, to be honest..

I plan to make it so that the list of files and drivers "OpenGL Installer" is easy to update, so I should not need to rewrite anything when updating the kernel, just change the PETs listed in the OpenGL-installers config file...

That's brilliant!! I'm gonna get on and make the other translations, and post them here, so others can just add a few fixes, if need be... Thanks once again! :D

EDIT: Wow... Did not realise how much there was to translate till I thought about it... GOOD WORK!! Gonna take me a while to catch up with the other translations

new version Quick Launch 1.2

Note that a method of launching it
with the keystrokes ctrl-shift-L
is needed to make it usable.

Note that line54 needs modification for Akita
because of /root/puppy-reference

- longer list of Favorite Folders is possible in window
of Quick Launch but will still fit in Netbook screen.

-Rox Bookmarks are automatically searched
and a few are added to list of Favorite Folders if
they meet criteria

Akita BETA 2

#296 Post by sc0ttman »

Akita BETA2: http://www.multiupload.com/BHFZCJJ0SF

Hopefully save files will just upgrade nicely this time as well... :?:

- translations for xserverwizard, wizardwizard, jwmconfig, etc very welcome
- just load poedit (link in main post), and load /usr/share/doc/nls/*/*.po

- if anyone can compile a UTF8 mrxvt that would be amazing...

**EDIT.. DO NOT load 'antiword' or 'doc2txt'!! It may crash your PC or desktop!!
It is the defaultwordprocessor by default, so change it!!

(will be fixed in beta3   )
**

Changes in Beta2, since Beta 1:

Code: Select all

  - updated pfilesearch, pupradio, picker,
   - fixed jwm_menu_create and jwm-extras
      - added xmessage and gxmessage groups
      - removed gettext from key bindings
      - split internet into 'WWW' and 'FileTransfer' categories
      - updated JWM translations
   - updated HTML mime handling, now uses defaulthtmlviewer
   - fixed browser-installer
      - now passes any given options to the installed browser
      - removed flock binary from util-linus pkg, fixes flock browser install process

   - updated conkyrc file, customised from wuweis version
   - changed default wallpaper to japup (thanks to CatDude)
   - added ptmtimer, bacon-recorder and screenshot-browser (with updates)
   - fixed wvdial (and therefore pupdial, etc) added libstc5
   - added PSIPPY 0.26, upxd binary, hacked GUI to use ash, not bash
   - updated default elinks config, also added bookmarks
   - fixes for jwm_menu_create
			- updated category selection from 0.7, duplicate entries allowed
			- added more sub categories to 'multimedia' category
	- edited the .desktop files
			- changed their cats, to appear in correct place, or multiple
			- added the improved russian translations from rodin.s
	- updated pfind to 4.23, required
	- updated defaultwordprocessor to use "doc2txt" (docx2txt and dox2pdf also available)
	- updated defaults-chooser to include doc2txt, docx2txt, doc2pdf in wordprocessor selection

	- updated docx2txt, now loads the file contents into the 'mp' console editor
	- updated /usr/bin/mocp-wrapper
			- uses mrxvt, for nicer colours
	- added "Play with Mocp" right-click option
			- for most audio files, asks to 'play now' or 'add to playlist'
	- added "Add to archive" right-click option, uses xarchiver
			- added to many filetypes: dir, iso, ms docs, ext images, sfs files, etc
	- added xls2csv and ppt2txt - console .xls and .ppt converters
	- added .csv run action, right click options and mime type

	- i18n'd jwmconfig, wizardwizard, xkdbmanager, input-wizard, xserverwizard (thanks rodin.s)
	- added ru translations for the above
	- updated ru translation in jwm_menu_create
I'm updating the keybindings now, they may be un-perfect in Beta2 ;)
I'll add your bookmark thing don, when I'm done choosing keybindings..

Then I need to make a text file with them all in there...

Beta 3 will be up fairly soon, I think... It will include fixed antiword/doc2txt, plus dons bookmarks things, updated keybindings for jwm and mrxvt, and other stuff too... maybe an early quickpet..

I just remembered, I will i18n delayedrun, flash-get, mocp-wrapper, and a few others, little scripts which pop up often.. if anyone can help that's great..

Also, please look inside "/usr/local/ql_gui/" .. It is a simple "Quick Launch GUI" tool, for auto-building a GtkDialog GUI from a single, simple rcfile... In its alpha stage at the moment, but its already used to create the "Theme Manager" and "Network Shares" GUIs :D

Please look at it because the rcfiles in "/usr/local/ql_gui" can be easily gettexted (I think), which will i18n the Theme Manager and Network Shares GUIs :D

ymount needs fixing, I know that much already! (specifically the file /usr/local/ymount/function - it needs to be ash compatible, or the main script, /bin/ymount, to be changed back to use bash)...

Flock and Flash 7

#299 Post by oligin10 »

Hi Scott, just a couple quick observations. Flock tries to install, and does show downloading, but never asks to install it. Flash 7 makes no attempt to install. More later, thanks, Rob P.S. Flash 9 installs as Flash 10.1 Combination of Opera 11 and Flash 9 is great! Works well on Inside Line and YouTube! Volume works great with problematic sound card, with no alsa sound wizard. All newer Puppies have problems with initial setup, seeing 1 card as 2 exact same cards. Looking GREAT! P.S.S. Opera widget manager does not populate with icon in menu. No problem for me, just an observation.

Thanks for catching the flock thing, fixed.. Also, I have updated ymount, might work fine now, but I removed all bashisms from its function file..

Also, I can assure you that 'flash-get' installs Flash7 for me every time but it's slower than the others - because the Flash7 archive that is downloaded is about 63mb!! It contains all Flash7 versions ever made, for Linux and Windows! Only the relevant .so file is installed, of course..

I think I will upload my own Flash7 somewhere, and update 'flash-get' to use that instead, so users with slow connections don't have to wait all week for Flash7! ;)

**EDIT: Speaking of browser and stuff, does anyone know of a good, stable Google Chrome .pet or tar.gz that works in Akita or Wary??

Hi oligin, yeah I posted about that one, it is a left over of Puppy-desktop-NLS (the i18n method from shinobar) - it requires the use of wmreboot to translate the menu item.. But now we're using tenchos JWM-tools instead of the standard JWM xdg files, I think I will change the shutdown menu slightly, maybe to use Pupshutdown, which I will i18n, and make the translations, as the needed translations are already around elsewhere...

By doing this, I can avoid using 'wmreboot' which is the script that does not seem to work!

i18n-ed pets

#303 Post by rodin.s »

I have made two i18n-pets (gettext): delayed_flash with delayedrun and flash-get and resizepfile.
In resizepfile file /bin/gettext.sh is used for eval_gettext to work. Shinobar used to replace it with the code:

Code: Select all

eval_gettext () {
  local myMESSAGE=$(gettext "$1")
  eval echo \"$myMESSAGE\"
}
But it doesn't work as good with Xdialog in this script.

review beta2

#304 Post by don570 »

Review of beta2

1) I had the same behaviour with the 'exit to prompt' as oligin10

2) When zathura_gui opens up it might be nice
if it opened directly to the PDF folder in the my-documents folder
and in that folder there was a small FAQ file in pdf format.
(Note that Abiword does a good job in making small pdf files
of a couple of kilobytes)

3) I installed FBReader and it worked.

4) Both Bacon Recorder and ptm timer have foreign local files
installed. They're just small text files so it hardly matters.

5) When I clicked on paint and draw Rox desktop icons
rgbpaint launched. Not sure what you see in that program.

6) You made changes to screenshot browser that
I don't think are necessary. I deliberately put three
incredibly small images in the Screenshots folder so
when the browser is first opened up there will be an
interesting list for the user to see. This will help
the user to understand how mtpaint does a list.
If mtpaint doesn't find any images in the folder
it will give a warning message, at least in the puppies I've
used. The idea behind Screenshot browser was to encourage the
user to put as many images in this folder for further editing

7 At startup I choose to show the icons on the Rox desktop (1440x900)
and the right-hand side icons didn't find the right corner properly
(see screenshot)

xbindkeys bug

#305 Post by don570 »

I also noticed a strange bug in Xbindkeys.

When I changed the resolution of the screen using XORG
config file then xbindkeys config app had to be started again
to make the keystroke combinations work again.
