very impressive ! wonderful job! I only got to play around with pkgdialog
a little bit but seems to work wonderful :D Looking forward to Akita 15  but THIS IS GREAT :D THANK YOU ! I will be playing with
pkgdialog some more I will report back if any issues ! I do have a question I never tried it but do you need devx sfs installed ? mine was but just wondering  thanks again ! for all you do for puppy cause
Thanks partsman, Pkg works well for me at least and it's much much faster than using the standard PPM.. I know it could be made faster as well... by a better coder! :D

You only need the devx installed to compile (build) stuff, but Pkg will print an error about this if it's not present.

I've made many changes and improvements to Pkg in the last few days, including the ability to install/uninstall/delete/search for/etc many pkgs at once, just encase the pkgs in double quotes:

Code: Select all

pkg -g "firefox mplayer tixati"
The above command will install all 3 of those pkgs in one go, plus all their deps...

Code: Select all

pkg -s "office printing"
The above command will search pkg names, descriptions, categories, etc, and show any pkgs that match either 'office' or 'printing'..

So before releasing Akita 15, I plan to change Pkgdialog so that the list of packages is a checklist - cos then users will be able to choose multiple packages to install/download/delete/etc in one go, using both Pkg and Pkgdialog...

Also, because I have so nicely (IMHO) integrated SFS-Installer, Pkg, Buildpet and Pkgdialog, I was thinking about allowing Akita users to automatically upload the compiled and combined pets and sfs packages they build with Pkg, to a 'contrib' akita repo... But I already compiled, combined and uploaded most of them myself, so didn't bother...

It's all relative! Almost everything I ever made was done with a little or a lot of help on these forums!!
And my early work was plain crap.. And as I say, it's all relative - many would say my work is still crap ;)

But glad you like it, hope to have a new one out in a week or less...

I have made an Akita Kernel 2.6.25.16 smp to support my dual core while keeping same kernel version ! looks like only diff is have to use smp ver kernel source to make modules ! however I have no sound and no Broadcom sta wireless driver ! using a usb wifi device for now
but gonna try to get sound fixed first ! any insight would be appreciated ! I will let you know how it goes ! also if you have any ideas as to why build will not open in pkgdialog :? I would be glad to help as always

I tried this ISO on my Lenovo ThinkPad T430, but there were two major problems from the get-go:

* The integrated wireless chipset was not detected

* The integrated sound hardware was not detected

I could not get either of these working via the wizards. I might have been able to get the wireless chipset working if I looked up what it was using another computer.

However, the latest version of Precise Puppy detected both of these items on first boot and they were available to use - so I know it's possible. I'm writing this in the hopes that this may help you improve Akita Linux. I like the look and feel much better than Precise Puppy, but without sound or wireless access, it's a no-go for me.

I checked the relevant pages, the oldest supported kernel is 2.6.27.x I think - your laptop is too new for Akita...

But, I do plan to have another go at releasing an Akita with an updated kernel, whisch if done right, would solve your problem, but I'd need some help I think, and would probably do it with beta 16 - i still plan to get the undergdog linux feature working first, plus a few other things ...

Cos first, I wanna get my eeepc 1005ha working 100% with akita, currently has wifi issues, but should be solvable, but i cant seem to nail it... Would LOVE some help with that!!

- would LOVE to get native wifi support working, for eee pcs/netbooks
- but also wanna have the correct windows driver for ndiswrapper, cant find it

Its been a couple releases since I tried it but I was using the wary kernel on akita fine... Just made new sfs files with minor tweaks.
Check out my github repositories. I may eventually get around to updating my blogspot.

I made one too, the only problem it had as far as I could tell was that the Nvidia and ATI drivers for the wary kernel I used would not work, X crashed, no desktop, had to use basic drivers, no opengl... partsman has solved this one though, so i may have another go soon.. any specific tips or causes of this are welcome! .. Techno, did you rebuild as sfs4? I did, not sure if I needed to... And I presume you replaced the relevant modules stuff in /etc a well?? Maybe I missed something there...?

Sc0ttman,
What can I do to help with Akita's advancement into a newer kernel ?
And if not that then what can I do ?
I have an older rig that my daughter is using I could test on specs are :
Celeron 1.2 gigahertz processor
384 MB ram
NVidia g-force 5 128 mb graphics card
runs well on current Akita kernel
As for my personal rig :
acer aspire laptop T4400 2.2 gigahertz processor
3 gig ram
intel gm45 express chip set
I could gladly send full report if needed !
using 2.6.32.28 kernel I used zzx_upgrade_73_to_75_nokms-201101-1pet
to get xorg 7.5 and my driver loaded correctly
please let me know what I can do
Also any idea why build will not open on pkgdialog ? doesnt give an error
just blinks and nothing happens :? devx is installed !
works with 1 save file I have but not the other :?
sorry so long thanks for everything sc0ttman !

Yes, rebuilt as sfs4 from wary5. it has to be sfs4 because that is the version in the kernel.

Hiyer sc0ttman,
sorry I've been on the quiet side - congratulations on the release of Beta 15 :)! I haven't tested it yet, but *hope* to, soon.
Actually I'm writing on one of the pets/sfs' you made for Flite text-to-speech, announced here: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic. ... 726#663726
I'm afraid I can't seem to get it working - it seems to fail to actually read the text file selected (typed in - the selection menu doesn't sustain residency (remains blank)), and when I do get a MP3 or WAV generated, it is essentially empty file. I was using Akita-beta14 for your offerings, but have have had this problem with Geoffrey and jrb's various pets/tar.gz's in dpup Wheezy and upup Precise (permasu's productions). Similar fails from repository installs via PPM in those debian/ubuntu similogues, as well as in LH64. I'm stumped. Has anyone had any luck in generating a speech file? Is the size of the original text file important?
Cheers

PS just got a post from Geoffrey regarding gtkdialog4 version (2.3), so will try that again
