Flashplayer 10.3.181.34

#1 Post by playdayz »

This is the latest Flashplayer as of JUN 30.

Flashplayer 10.3.181.34 is packaged differently than usual--it is not just libflashplayer.so. You can change the extension of the pet to tgz and unpack to see what is inside. The pet is 5MB which expands to 13MB!!! But taking out the extra stuff only saves 1MB.

My guess is it would probably work with just libflashplayer.so into /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. There is even a menu entry to configure Flashplayer.

http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/dis ... 181.34.pet

It should work on any Puppy i would think.

I have created my own manual install of this version of Flashplayer which works as expected in Lucid 525, Quirky 142 and Quirky 130. However in Wary 511 selecting the settings manager "playback" tab causes it to crash with a segmentation fault.

I have not bothered downloading the latest Wary 5.1.1.56 and 5.1.1.57 but anyone who has may like to confirm (or not) this behaviour.

Chrome-10 & Opera 11.11

#3 Post by xman »

I have used independently unpacked libflashplayer.so 10.3r181 in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins since day of release. After downgrade firefox from 4.01 to 3.6.17 I'm not able to tell anything about combination FF4.01 & FP10.3r181, but FF3.6.17 & FP10.3r181 is stable on Q-130 .

After big flop of firefox 4 :? Opera has come very close to me, but I have still used latest debian root-Chrome-10 because of its quirky superior flash tv-stream performance. You can update flash: Replace old libflashplayer.so in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins. You can view and configure Chrome plugins by typing about:plugins to the Chrome address bar, then clicking 'Details'. For more puppy space, you can delete old libgcflashplayer.so from /opt/google/chrome.

You can get the pet down to ~5MB if you prune the contents down to:

/usr/bin/flash-player-properties
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
/usr/share/applications/flash-player-properties.desktop
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/*/*.*
/usr/share/pixmaps/flash-player-properties.png

"Adobe Flash Player Preferences" (/usr/bin/flash-player-properties) is useful for controlling Flash access to your box, checking for updates & clearing out files stored by Flash.

Clearing out maybe is what I want to do. So need to test but feel vulnerable at the moment so wait for more reports of successes using it.
I use Google Search on Puppy Forum
not an ideal solution though

That comes with Flashplayer 10.3.181.14 that came along with Chrome, so YMMV with only the .so file on different systems.

I would be interested if that's all that's required on another puppy/puplet with another browser- if so, good news! 14 M for flash? Adobe, you are forgetting flashes roots :) Or more likely i'm just old...

Good, The other junk allows some configuration of Flashplayer--I don't know whether it is useful or not--well, I have never used it ;-)

But the junk didn't just come with Chrome--it was in the main download.

First firefox 4 and now 5 as well, kept complaining about "outdated" flashplayer in my puppy 525.

Found and installed flashplayer 10.3.181.34 and so far it works to my satisfaction:

Well, also Youtube and other sites are upgrading with Adobe so I need the latest Flashplayer, no matter where I find it; so far, so good.

Formerly, Adobe used to offer a *.deb Linux package on their site but now only rpm, yum, tar and the like.

Is this not the latest Flashplayer? It is 10.3 r181, but now I am not sure of the last number--the current is 10.3.181.34. This is the same size as the current. Are browsers complaining about this one?

Linux browsers are inaccurate in expressing flash version. Not a big problem! Play some flash video, right-click on picture and you have exact one.

Thank you xman. It was 10.3.181.14. It has now been updated in the first message of this thread to the latest 10.3.181.34.

Just installed the full package; any way to test if it works?

I configured it to request as in screenshot below.
What's that all about?

Thank you,

I extracted the
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
/usr/bin/flash-player=properties

and all worked OK.

Now I'm realizing that really I should install the whole package as most of the size comes from the libflashplayer.so (12 MB)

For some reason I got here because for some reason Flash didn't allow me to click on the settings (e.g. allow web and mic sharing) but as I work around I added the exception to allow it for each particular site.

sure but better then a package

why the constant packages for something that keeps changing?

running some simple script
keeps you up to date automatically installs it for you

independent of package format

open a terminal and paste this or make it a script

Code: Select all

cd /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
wget -c http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
tar -xzf install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
rm -f install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz

test what version you have

you have over a 130 posts
if you can make a post in the forum you more than qualify to be able to do this very simple thing

1.)open a terminal which is rxvt or urxvt depending what version you are on

2.)select all the code I posted [thats the green text only ] then paste it into the terminal (sometimes you have to press the center mouse scroll button down to paste into a terminal )

3.) then press enter

good luck and the terminal is your friend in linux
