aarf, if the phone or hot spot is compatible with 801.11b/g/n and you have wifi on puppy then you are good to go.

i think need aditional software. i want to have the choice of making my eeepc a gateway (terminology?) to allow others to access the internet.so it is me who is setting the passwords and selecting the ecryption type on my puppy. without a router. this is what the mentioned above app seems to promise?

so i figure if you can do this with an android you may be able to do it with a laptop and non wifi phone. account is charged by the hour not by the gigabyte.

Yes, you need the hostapd daemon, plus a few extra utilities.
I provided these applications about a year ago to another forum member, but I see that they need updating, and the setup is a bit complex, so some clear instructions are also needed.
Give me a day or two.

had a look now. this is something different to what is requested in this original thread. my phone is not android and doesnt have wifi. here i was requesting 3G phone to be usb cable tether to puppy for a hotspot on non-ethernet connected puppy. while chris post is a solution about how to do the android connect mentioned initially as the thought instigator.
