Run chromium as root

#1 Post by disciple »

Apparently Chrome/ium users are too stupid to have the right to choose ;) (http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issue ... l?id=74594).
And although they claim that you can run as root simply by using the --user-data-dir= option, this is not true!

However, thankfully you don't have to patch chromium and compile from source to run as root - all it takes is a simple edit to the binary as described at http://ksiiitm.blogspot.com/2011/05/run ... owser.html
I used wxHexEditor, but I imagine there is a lightweight scriptable program somewhere that you could use to automatically do the edit every time you get a new version of the browser.
Do you know a good gtkdialog program? Please post a link here

Frakkin' Awesome! I haven't tried this approach, but it sounds like it would work. Will test soon- right now i have to do so many stupid things to get Chrome running as spot while insulating a user from that fact.

Thank you disciple!

The Hex stuff is a little intimidating though for a guy like me..

They also mention this works for VLC as well.
