Macpup 525 & Macpup 528 & 528v2

#1 Post by runtt21 »

Post for Macpup 528 start at 192 in this thread. Thanks !!

Prit And I are proud to announce the release of Macpup 525,our newest
e17 Macpup.

MP525 is based on Puppy Linux 5.2.5 ,"Lucid Puppy", An official woof
build of puppy Linux that is binary-compatible with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx
packages.MP525 contains all the apps from Lucid puppy with the addition of
Firefox 4. Extra apps like Opera or Gimp are available for easy
download from the Quickpet App on the ibar or the Puppy Package Manager.
MP525 also includes the Enlightenment E17 window manager. The EFL libraries
version 1.0.999 and E17 version 59456 where compiled and installed
from source.

All included E17 themes are By Verdegal37 and where customized for
Macpup by CatDude and Runtt21.

Thank's to everyone that has help or supported the Macpup project:
Ttuuxxx, CatDude, Puppyluvr, Mu, Sneekylinux, Rasterman and all Of the
E17 crew, ZaZoOo, WhoDo, Omskates, Cgt_1991. Joel, Russoodle,
GrumpyWolfe,Maxpro4u, Rokytnji & 01miko.

Extra Thanks to Agust(Verdegal37), The best E17 Themer on the planet.
And Louis King Jr. for the backgrounds .

Special Thanks to BarryK the creator of puppylinux. And PlayDaze the
developer of Lucid puppy.

To keep your CPU cool and your fan quiet use the CPU Frequency Scaling
Tool . Menu-applications-system-CPU frequency Scaling Tool

The first time you run Macpup, The system will be running totally in RAM!
Click on Htop on the ibar to check working space left in RAM*. If less than 30MB,
do not run big apps like Firefox -- instead, shutdown Macpup and you will be
asked to create a save file, that will give you more space. You can put the
save file almost anywhere,Hard drive,USB Flash drive,Sd card.Etc...
I recommend 256 MB total system ram for Macpup. You can also check ram by adding
the systray module to the Ibar. Click on the Top Hat on the Ibar to adjust most
system settings. Access the settings panel to make adjustments to e17.
Menu-settings-settings panel or the settings icon on the right end of the Ibar.

Updates for Macpup 525 can be found at http://macpup.org/runtt21/ in the macpup 525 folder,
as well as extra modules and more themes. Please note that macpup is for PC's and
not intended for use on a real "Mac".

The .iso is 155 MB

http://macpup.org/macpup525.php

the default theme:

Important note about themes, All of the mp511 & mp520 themes will work in
mp525.

This version of Macpup will boot to desktop in almost all cases and
from that screen you can make adjustments if they are needed or
wanted. The desktop and clock should be correct. If it does not boot to
a graphical screen, it might boot to a “prompt.

Installed MACpup525. Downloaded the Angelic theme from the 520 thread. Installed the pet. But how do I select the theme ? It does not show in the themes list (under settings/themes) rightmost icon in the banner bottom screen.

The Angelic theme wouldn't install for me either (running live pfix=ram) but as a test I installed the Black theme pet from the 520 folder with no problem. appears that it may just be a problem with that one pet.

I downloaded mp525 about an hour ago and am posting this message with it. Everything seems to be running okay on this P4 3.0GHz desktop. Just one question: Can I ask why you opted to include Firefox 4.0.1 instead of Firefox 7 beta? Was it the smaller size, or was there some problem that you found with FF7? Thanks again for another great-looking puplet.!

The thing about ff7 is ,it isn't even in alpha yet. It's that cutting edge. I intend to use it later in a different development release.I dont care if its alpha or not. I have noticed that ff7 doesn't update pages like ff4 does. It will load the page on some sites like our forum but you need to refresh the page to get the newest version.

Macpup 525

The first boot worked fine. It was used to play a couple of games. surf the WWW and watch internet TV. MacPup 525 showed it could walk the walk of a new updated release of PUPPY.
Many thanks to all who helped bring this to us.

backi , look inside the /root/working folder. If there is a folder in there called pkgtemp delete it. Then try to install the .deb . I tried installing xvidcap.deb from ubuntu repos. The first angelic theme .pet was packaged wrong and left a hidden folder in /root/working/pkgtemp which caused /pkgtemp to not get deleted after a package installation like it's suppose to. After I deleted that the .deb installed and ran fine. Don't delete /root/working .

I just installed it to and it ran fine but (don't take this the wrong way) swiftfox is ff3.6 . I am running ff7 pre alpha and it smokes swift. If you really want a cutting edge fox, 7 is the way to go IMO. Now it isn't prefect but DUDE......

How to install firefox 7 in macpup

#19 Post by runtt21 »

How to install Firefox 7 in Macpup 525 and still keep Firefox 4.........

This is how I have it set up if you would like to try ff7....

First go here and download the firefox-7.0a1.en-US.linux-i686.tar.bz2

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... est-trunk/

Then move it into /root/working and unpack the .tar.bz2 there. It will create a firefox folder. In there look in the icons folder. Copy or move the mozicon128.png into /root/icons . Then download my FF7desktopfile.tar.gz . Unpack that and move the firefox 7 .desktop file into /usr/share/applications. And you're good to go. FF7 will now be in the menu under internet. You can use either 7 or 4 and they will share bookmarks but when you switch they will show the first run window. Enjoy!!
